The group you'll be a part of
In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.
The impact you'll make
Mechatronics Engineering is part of the centralized Global Product Engineering Group. Lam Mechatronics Engineering has a proven track record of rapid innovation in semiconductor equipment automation, including VORTEX™ wafer handling robots, process chamber mechanisms, and Lam Equipment Intelligence smart devices. As a Mechanical Engineer within Mechatronics, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact across multiple Lam product groups.
What you'll do
  • Design activities related to wafer handling robotics and linear/rotary mechanisms used in semiconductor manufacturing tools.
  • Develop and maintain application firmware, design motion profiles and trajectories.
  • Design control systems hardware integrating OEM Servo Drive products to custom enclosures.
  • Perform PID loop tuning and robustness analysis.
  • Develop and improve image processing techniques in products automating robot teaching.
  • Develop functional specifications of different features integrating the robotics/mechanisms to Lam wafer handling modules.
  • Support existing and new robotics / mechanism products throughout their lifecycle.
  • Create documentation.
  • Support Failure Analysis using 5-Why and 8D methods.
  • Support test stand development and operation at remote supplier sites.

Who we're looking for
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering with experience in industrial robotics or mechatronics design.
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience or an advanced degree with no industry experience.
  • Image processing techniques with OpenCV.
  • Working knowledge of C, C++ and Python.
  • Knowledge/experience in these areas related to 6-DOF or scara-type industrial robots.
  • Robot kinematic and dynamics modeling by deriving equation-of-motion.
  • Trajectory profile calculation using trapezoidal or jerk-limited profiles.
  • PID loop tuning using classical Control theory. Knowledge with state-space a plus.
  • Embedded firmware experience (RTOS, bare metal) a plus but not required.

Preferred qualifications
A demonstrated passion for Mechatronics in the form of robotics, industrial automation, and/or sensing/computer vision.
