Job description

The group you’ll be a part of

In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam’s etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting‑edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.

The impact you’ll make

Join Lam as a Manufacturing Engineer where you'll play a crucial role assembling, testing, and supporting high precision robots and other mechanisms as a member of the Global Products Engineering Group within the Mechatronics team. Lam Mechatronics Engineering has a proven track record of rapid innovation in semiconductor equipment automation including VORTEX wafer handling robots, process chamber mechanisms, and Lam Equipment Intelligence smart devices. Using your knowledge of technology and engineering principles you will oversee the planning, development, and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes, and operations. You'll tackle technical, quality, and production challenges. Your expertise optimizing manufacturing costs and standards helps shape Lam's commitment to innovation and efficiency in manufacturing.

What you’ll do
  • Conduct build readiness reviews (BOM review, assembly station readiness, material on hand) with engineers to ensure early commitment timelines can be met with internal customers.
  • Help mature products by logging open issues, driving issues to closure (close the loop), improving build sequencing to reduce time, maturing test stands to reduce human intervention, and training technicians for build and test.
  • Assist in test strategy early in design of test‑stands to ensure component level test, system level test, fixturing, calibration, data collection, and test to spec are considered.
  • Act as a technical interface with outsource manufacturers alongside supplier engineering team (SET) and supplier business management (SBM) to aid in outsource efficiency, including: engagement in supplier pilot builds, build training, test training, factory sequence and flow, correct build and test intent.
  • Provide design or test suggestions to design team to reduce design costs, speed up build process, or improve first‑pass‑yield.
  • Provide initial build and test time estimates for project planning.
  • Take responsibility of lab space, ensure material stocking, assist with material flow, plan workbench/space layout, plan test stand layout, work with facilities as needed for lab improvements to assist with manufacturing and test, selecting and installing new equipment as necessary.
  • Perform lab tests on mechatronics components to verify compatibility with requirements, including: equivalency of two suppliers, performance improvements of new technologies.
  • Maintain long‑term testing on various lab test stands to validate life performance of various Mechatronics assemblies.
  • Ensure safety is maintained or plan for necessary PPE within lab space, during build sequence, and during test sequence.
Who we’re looking for
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field with 7+ years of experience; or Master’s degree with 5+ years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Skilled troubleshooting capabilities in the areas of electro/mechanical assemblies.
  • High level of understanding regarding assembly and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) with approach to structured problem‑solving and decision‑making.
  • Some knowledge in software applications such as CAD modeling, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), or Product Data Modeling (PDM) systems.
  • Understanding of Engineering Change Management Process.
  • Working knowledge in Operation Method Sheets (OMS), process planning, and Bill of Materials (BOM) Management.
Preferred qualifications
  • Knowledge of Semiconductor equipment, Capital Equipment industry and its manufacturing processes.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Statistical analysis skills including statistical process control and data analysis used in production setting.
  • Knowledge in Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Proven stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders or customers in technical matters.
