Job description

Mechanical Estimator 

Location Requirements:
This is a remote, contract-to-hire position. Candidates must currently reside in one of the following locations:
  • Indianapolis, IN.
  • Phoenix, AZ.
  • Portland, OR.
Quarterly travel to Indianapolis, IN is required.

Description:
ASAP is hiring on behalf of our client for an experienced Mechanical Estimator to support the development of accurate cost estimates for complex industrial and process facility projects. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting large-scale manufacturing and industrial capital projects.

Please Note: This position requires experience estimating industrial mechanical systems. Candidates whose experience is limited to residential HVAC, residential construction, commercial roofing, or general commercial building projects are not the right fit for this opportunity.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare conceptual, budgetary, and detailed cost estimates for industrial mechanical construction projects.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine project scope.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for mechanical piping, HVAC systems, equipment, ductwork, and utility systems.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations.
  • Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontract cost estimates.
  • Participate in bid reviews, scope clarification meetings, and value engineering efforts.
  • Identify project risks, assumptions, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare estimate summaries and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, procurement, construction, and project management teams throughout the estimating process.
  • Support change order pricing and estimate revisions as project scope evolves.
  • Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of mechanical estimating experience on industrial construction projects.
  • Experience estimating projects within manufacturing, pharmaceutical, chemical, food & beverage, refinery, or other industrial/process facilities is strongly preferred.
  • Experience preparing quantity takeoffs for mechanical piping, HVAC equipment, process systems, and utilities.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Experience preparing bid packages, proposals, and detailed cost estimates.
  • Proficiency with estimating software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, QuoteSoft, FastPIPE, FastDUCT, RSMeans, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), HeavyBid, B2W, or similar.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
