Job description

Position Overview
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will apply their professional and technical expertise to designing mechanical engineering concepts and options that align with the owner’s vision for each project. This individual should have a comprehensive understanding of the consulting engineering process and the contractual documents which are involved.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the scope of assigned projects and utilize software programs to create the mechanical engineering designs including HVAC and other mechanical systems.
  • Managing all business aspects of multiple concurrent projects, review accuracy of contact documents and ensure financial targets are met while maintaining established quality standards
  • Define appropriate project scope, establish budgets, cost estimates and project schedules to write proposals. Develop and follow work plans and manage the design process to the available hours in the work plan
  • Act as the liaison with the customer and project staff to properly identify and process scope changes, address issues, communicate regarding project milestones, etc.
  • Proactively manage any possible scope of work variances to ensure client satisfaction and that projects stay on track. Respond to RFI’s and accurately review submittals
  • Manage project related correspondence and documents through designated document management systems
  • Perform engineering studies and design analyses to determine cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications, also verify code compliance of the system designs.
  • Supervise and mentor select assistant project managers and project design engineers on the project team.
  • Preparation and layout of BIM drawings and coordination with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design phase, design development phase, permitting phase, and construction documents phase.
  • Perform construction administration tasks including, but not limited to, site observations, shop drawing review, and preparation of punch lists.
  • Actively maintain excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action items.
  • Assists in the development of proposals and presentations to clients.
  • Miscellaneous duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and based in Houston, TX.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in mechanical engineering management and design of commercial buildings preferably in aviation, higher education, health care, hospitality, entertainment, or governmental facilities.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE); engineering registration should be in the state(s) in which the employee resides and projects will be constructed.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of principles, methods and techniques of mechanical engineering, corporate and industry practices, processes and standards and their impact on project activities.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading and coordinating multi-discipline engineering teams.
  • Experience with a variety of project deliverable methods including design-build, design-bid-construct, fast-track and other construction delivery methods.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national codes, including other aspects of laws, regulations, and potential liabilities affecting the practice of engineering.
  • Revit MEP proficiency required, and familiarity with other engineering software programs.
  • Highly proficient technical/computer skills including Microsoft O365 (Outlook, Work, Excel), internet and web applications.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey information, ideas, and concepts verbally, written, or in graphic form.
  • Ability to prepare original specifications for project systems and components, as well as complete project manuals with sub-consultant specifications when the company serves as the prime professional.
  • Must have the technical knowledge and hands-on experience to effectively evaluate various mechanical engineering options for configuration of equipment and components.
  • Experienced with cost containment and reduction approaches and the capability of providing appropriate relative costs of different engineering approaches
