Overview

The Director of Mechanical Engineering position is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join the PM Group Leadership team out of the quickly growing Raleigh - Durham area team located out of our Apex, NC office. This is a client facing and leadership position that will require the ability to inspire confidence in staff as well as from 1st client contact through proposal preparation and project execution. The ability to motivate and mentor others in a dynamic growing office environment is required. ย Our Office will be executing leading-edge projects for Cell & Gene Therapy, mABs, Oligonucleotide, and Fill Finish processes for both local and international clients.

Proven project and design delivery in complex facilities (life sciences / biopharma / cell & gene therapy / pharmaceutical) is required.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide Leadership to the PM Group Mechanical Design Team
  • Act as a part of the US Leadership Teamย 
  • Be an Ambassador for the Company, as you interact with our clients providing excellent design services
  • Lead, execute and oversee conceptual design studies
  • Lead, execute and oversee detailed engineering projects, directly and through the supervision of other engineers

Typical areas of design include:

  • Design for complex facilities including clean rooms and laboratories (airflow schematics, supply and exhaust systems, ductwork routing, pressurization, utility systems, plumbing, HVAC controls)
  • Specification and procurement of mechanical equipment (central cooling, heating and steam systems; air systems; piping systems; duct and plume systems; fume hoods; biosafety cabinets, etc.)
  • Lead, develop, and mentor staff
  • Review submissions and installations for compliance with design intent and good engineering practice
  • Being a resident on a construction site for short periods as required
  • Witness commissioning activities, trials, and factory acceptance tests (FAT) and installed system test and balance activities
  • Plan and manage work and resources to budget and schedule
  • Present PM Groupโ€™s Mechanical capability to potential clients in support of proposals
  • Liaise and coordinate with other disciplines within the USA offices, within other PM Group offices and with external consultants
  • Support recruitment activities

Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina โ€“ is required
  • LEED certification is desirable but not required
  • Demonstrated capability in mechanical / building services design
  • Self-motivated. A reliable, consistent, and mature approach to work โ€“ desired
  • Demonstrate the ability to play a positive role in multi-discipline teams
  • Professional approach and demeanor
  • An ethical approach to safety, quality, environmental protection, and business
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients and peers at all levels, with good presentation skills
