Purpose of Position:


Del Monte Foods is the Foods Division of Fresh Del Monte, a global grower, producer and marketer of fresh, value-added, and shelf-stable produce. Del Monte Foods has a powerful portfolio of brands, including the iconic Del Monte, Contadina and S&W. We are currently seeking a Seasonal Maintenance Helper. The Seasonal Maintenance Helper supports maintenance execution, equipment reliability, and production operations across assigned departments during the processing season. This role assists with preventative maintenance, minor repairs, equipment readiness, and operational support to maintain safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations.


This position works closely with Crew Leaders, Supervisors, and Operations teams to support equipment uptime, production flow, sanitation readiness, and overall plant performance. In addition to mechanical support, this role provides guidance to seasonal employees and helps maintain safe work practices.


Assignments may vary by department (Canning, Cookroom, Receiving, Sanitation, Warehouse/Utility), but core expectations remain consistent across all areas. Our Plover, Wisconsin production facility hires seasonal employees to support our annual vegetable pack season. Seasonal employment for Maintenance Helpers typically begins in late April/early May and runs through early October, with potential opportunities for extended work through December based on business needs and performance.


Work schedules during the season can be demanding and may include shifts of up to 12 hours per day, up to 6 days per week. Overtime is available after 40 hours worked in a week. Start dates, end dates, and schedules may vary depending on operational requirements and crop conditions.


Accountabilities:


Maintenance & Equipment Support

  • Assist with preventative maintenance and minor repairs on processing and support equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting of equipment issues to minimize downtime and maintain production flow.
  • Perform lubrication, inspection, and basic servicing of equipment as directed.
  • Help maintain equipment readiness for startup and ongoing production.
  • Identify and communicate mechanical concerns to leadership for timely resolution.

Production & Operational Support

  • Support production flow by ensuring equipment is functioning efficiently and safely.
  • Assist with maintaining product movement through assigned areas to meet operational targets.
  • Provide break relief coverage for operational roles as needed.
  • Support startup, shutdown, and changeover activities across departments.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and operationally ready work areas.

Seasonal Workforce Support

  • Provide direction and support to seasonal employees during daily operations.
  • Reinforce work expectations, safety practices, and proper procedures.
  • Assist with on-the-job training for seasonal employees in assigned areas.
  • Maintain communication with Crew Leaders and Supervisors regarding staffing or performance concerns.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety policies including Lockout/Tagout, confined space, and equipment safety procedures.
  • Promote safe work behaviors and identify potential hazards in the work area.
  • Use required PPE and ensure compliance with safety expectations.
  • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and equipment issues immediately.
  • Support compliance with food safety, GMP, and sanitation standards where applicable.

Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain clear communication with Crew Leaders, Supervisors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate work activities to support production and maintenance priorities.
  • Assist with documentation, recordkeeping, or reporting as required by department.
  • Support coordination with contractors or external partners when applicable.

General Support

  • Assist other departments based on operational needs.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure work areas remain clean and safe.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support plant operations.

Area-Specific Responsibilities

Canning/Cookroom

  • Support maintenance on conveyors, seamers, and processing lines.
  • Assist with equipment adjustments to maintain product quality and throughput.
  • Work around hot surfaces, steam systems, and high-speed production equipment.
  • Assist with cookroom equipment, retorts, and thermal processing systems.
  • Support monitoring and accuracy of process records and equipment operation.
  • Work in high heat environments and around pressurized systems.

Receiving/Sanitation

  • Support equipment used in raw product receiving and unloading operations.
  • Assist with maintaining flow of raw product into the plant.
  • Provide operational support to receiving processes and staging.
  • Assist with sanitation equipment maintenance and cleaning operations.
  • Support chemical handling, sanitation processes, and cleanup verification.
  • Work in wet environments with exposure to cleaning agents and sanitation tools.

Warehouse / Utility

  • Assist with sanitation equipment maintenance and cleaning operations.

To support employees during our peak pack season, Del Monte Foods offers select incentives for eligible seasonal workers. These incentives are designed to assist with temporary relocation and seasonal work demands and may include:
