Your responsibilities are to help a journeyman mechanic with vehicle maintenance tasks, such as an oil change, tire rotation, or equipment repair. You also move vehicles and their parts and clean the work area. You may inspect the vehicle and note important observations for the mechanic. You remove and reassemble parts, assist with light maintenance duties, and keep equipment and tools clean for your supervising mechanic. Mechanic helpers typically work in this position for several months to learn the skills necessary to further their career and become a journeyman mechanic.
| Aspect | Mechanic Helper | Automotive Technician |
|---|---|---|

| Work Environment | Auto repair shops, garages, dealerships | Auto repair shops, dealerships, service centers |
| Job Responsibilities | Assist mechanics, perform basic repairs, maintenance tasks | Diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles independently |
The main difference between a Mechanic Helper and an Automotive Technician is the level of responsibility and skill.
