Job Title: Mechanic Apprentice Location: Fredericksburg, VA Type: Contract To Hire Compensation: $22.00 Work Model: Onsite โ€“ onsite Hours: 5:30pm - 1:30am Overview

System One is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our workforce in an entry level position with room to grow into a career with Railroad Retirement . As a mechanic apprentice you will be working under our experienced and qualified mechanics to learn the trade and advance your career. To be a successful mechanic apprentice, you should be good with your hands and have strong attention to detail. Ultimately, a top-notch mechanic apprentice has a good understanding of mechanical and great customer service skills. Must be able to pass a background check and DOT drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Aids all mechanical personnel with any servicing and inspection needs
  • Primary nightly duties include refilling of water, sand, and oil to all in-service passenger equipment
  • Restocking all emergency tooling/supplies
  • Fills out service requests within Keolisโ€™s proprietary tracking system specifying parts and labor
  • All other duties assigned
  • OJT will be provided once all required training is completed

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Driverโ€™s license required
  • Must be able to work amid constant interruptions, have ability to prioritize and be detail oriented
  • Must be able to perform physical activities including lifting up to seventy-five (75) pounds
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Safety first attitude
  • Basic hand tools
  • Additional mechanical/electrical/HVAC training desired
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, diligent, and able to operate independently with limited supervision
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Sound judgement: Good problem-solving and analytical skills (troubleshoot technical issues, communicate, and document solutions to non-technical parties)
  • Must have good communication skills, ability to both verbally and in written format document questions and diagnostic information to management personnel
