Job description

Up to $132,700 PER YEAR
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to keep Harmons' fresh meat departments above the competition by being a strong leader and driving innovation through the Meat Better Basics team. This person is responsible for the profitability of the fresh meat departments and maintaining a high gross margin. This person will also be sourcing and buying product, developing new items and recipes, writing ads, building relationships with vendors and store associates and providing exceptional customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follows established company policies and procedures
  • Provides Meat Managers with the tools to ensure the quality, freshness, product assortment and inventory levels of all products and services the meat department provides are maintained
  • Confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
  • Analyzes sales-by-item data for the meat departments and identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Designs, executes, communicates and follows up on sales and merchandising plans
  • Calculates projections and ensures the ability of the fresh meat departments to reach gross margin goals
  • Builds and maintains relationships with store associates, Store Directors and outside vendors
  • Responsible for departmental space management; new items, new sets, merchandising, etc.
  • Assists with training new Meat Managers
  • Responsible for creating and implementing promotions and incentives based on sales goals
  • Sources, buys and prices products and ingredients for the meat departments
  • Writes, proofs and finalizes weekly and monthly ads
  • Approves invoices
  • Plans for holiday sales and seasonal items and sets
  • Develops new items and recipes for meat departments
  • Completes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Sets a professional and positive example to others
  • Communicates openly and frequently with Store Directors and Vice President of Sales
  • Ensures company standards for safety, sanitation and productivity are maintained
  • Teaches, mentors and educates associates to help them be successful members of the team
  • Provides honest, direct and constant feedback to Meat Managers regarding their performance and areas of improvement; assesses Meat Manager performance and may influence promotion, discipline, etc.
  • Promptly addresses shares associates' concerns and/or grievances with their Store Director
  • Quarterly inventory of all meat products

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:
A high school diploma or GED and some college education are preferred; five years of meat department experience preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Current Food Handler's Permit
  • Must have an expert knowledge of and enjoy working with and handling meat department products
  • Should have a passion for all meat department items and enjoy eating them
  • Must have exceptional leadership and communication skills
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Ability to conceptualize and envision products and programs for the future
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, multi-task, balance friendliness with efficiency and maintain focus
  • A good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, email and the internet
  • Excellent knowledge of Harmons food safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to utilize computer systems and standard office equipment
  • Must have the ability to advocate, analyze and understand technology to be effective personally and have an impact on business performance
