Position Overview 

This Business Administration Intern role is a hands‑on internship designed to provide exposure to the business, operational, and administrative functions of the company. The intern will support project managers, estimators, finance and accounting teams, plant operations, and HR/administrative staff to gain an understanding of how major construction projects and materials operations are managed. This position offers experience with key business processes including project management, financial analysis, job cost review, contracts, procurement, logistics, and operations planning.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) 

Business & Financial Administration

  • Assist Operations Managers and accounting teams with monthly projections, job cost review, and workload analysis.
  • Learn and assist in reviewing P&L basics and financial statements.
  • Support contract administration including setting up contracts and subcontracts, tracking materials, and managing documentation.
  • Participate in estimating, pricing, and bidding work for construction and materials projects.

Operations & Project Support

  • Learn how to find, bid, and build heavy construction projects.
  • Support project managers with scheduling, documentation, and field coordination.
  • Assist with trend tracking such as quantities, costs, and productivity curves.

Materials & Plant Operations Exposure

  • Learn about asphalt plant operations including scales, loader activities, and general plant maintenance.
  • Spend time at aggregate sites to understand materials, logistics, and customer relationships.

Administrative & Office Support

  • Assist with general business administration including reporting, data entry, compliance, and onboarding processes.
  • Learn CRH corporate policies, safety program documentation, and regulatory procedures.

Cross‑Functional Learning

  • Rotate through operations, quality, safety, HR, and finance to understand the business holistically.
  • Participate in team meetings, safety briefings, and management discussions.

Education/Experience 

  • Actively pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Finance, Accounting, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in both field and office environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Work Requirements 

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 
  • Ability to write correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. . 
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to compute, rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs. 
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions 
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to type and use keyboards accurately and have knowledge of Database software.
