Matlab Python Intern information

What does a Matlab Python Intern do?

A Matlab Python Intern assists with software development and data analysis tasks using Matlab and Python programming languages. They typically work on coding, testing, debugging, and optimizing algorithms, as well as visualizing data and automating workflows. Their role often involves supporting engineering or research teams by writing scripts, analyzing datasets, and contributing to project documentation. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in scientific computing or data science.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on as a Matlab Python Intern?

As a Matlab Python Intern, you can expect to work on a mix of data analysis, automation, and simulation projects. Typical tasks may include writing scripts to process and visualize data, developing or optimizing algorithms, and assisting with the integration of Matlab and Python workflows. You will likely collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, or research teams, gaining exposure to practical problem-solving in a team setting. This role offers a great opportunity to enhance your programming skills while contributing to real-world technical projects.

What is the difference between Matlab Python Intern vs Data Analyst Intern?

AspectMatlab Python InternData Analyst Intern
Required SkillsProficiency in Matlab and Python programmingKnowledge of data analysis tools, Excel, SQL, and Python
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, engineering firms, tech companiesBusiness, finance, marketing departments
Industry UsageEngineering, scientific research, software developmentBusiness intelligence, market research, reporting

Both roles often require programming skills and familiarity with data tools. While Matlab Python Interns focus on technical and scientific programming, Data Analyst Interns concentrate on analyzing data to support business decisions. The choice depends on your career interest in engineering/science versus business analytics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Matlab Python Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Matlab Python Intern, you need a solid foundation in programming, data analysis, and problem-solving, typically gained through coursework in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Experience with Matlab and Python programming environments, as well as familiarity with libraries such as NumPy and Pandas, is essential. Attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and strong communication skills help interns excel in collaborative and fast-paced research or engineering teams. These skills are crucial for efficiently contributing to projects, troubleshooting code, and effectively sharing results with colleagues.

Serves as an Intern in a School of Medicine Department. Duties and responsibilities may vary based on the department and specific focus of the work.

Emory Sports Performance And Research Center (SPARC) is seeking a Biomechanics Research Fellow to support our ongoing research and clinical initiatives. This role focuses on the intersection of human movement, technology, and data acquisition. The ideal candidate will assist in the execution of biomechanical testing protocols, manage specialized data collection hardware and software, and ensure the integrity of data captured from athletes, clinical patients, and research participants.

Responsibilities may include performing biomechanical assessment and data collections, ensuring participant eligibility and readiness, performing basic data quality control and analysis, and across multidisciplinary teams of researchers, clinicians, and performance staff.

Who Should Apply?
- Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Sports Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- Familiarity with 3D motion capture systems (e.g., Vicon, Qualisys, OpenCap) and force plate technology (e.g., AMTI, Bertec) is preferred.
- Basic exposure to data handling software or programming environments (such as MATLAB, Python, or R) is an asset.
- High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical staff and athletic populations.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
