Technical Systems Integration (TSI) - School to Work

Engine Business Unit (EBU)

Program Overview

This program provides hands-on experience in system-level engineering and early product development within Cummins' Technical Systems Integration (TSI) team.

TSI operates between research and product execution:

  • Research & Technology explores early concepts
  • TSI develops and integrates systems (TRL 4-5)
  • Product teams execute final designs

In this role, you will work on real engineering problems where early decisions shape product performance, cost, and risk.

What You'll Do

During the program, you will:

  • Support system-level engineering activities, including data analysis, performance evaluation, and component/system interactions
  • Assist with validation and testing activities, helping interpret results and identify insights
  • Work across teams (engineering, simulation, test) to support integration and decision-making
  • Contribute to improving engineering workflows using data, automation, and emerging tools such as Agentic AI
  • Help translate engineering data into clear recommendations for design or development decisions

What You'll Learn

  • How early-stage engineering decisions are made before product launch
  • How different engineering disciplines come together at the system level
  • How data and tools are used to improve engineering decisions
  • How emerging technologies like Agentic AI can support engineering analysis and productivity

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong interest in systems, engines, or product development
  • Basic understanding of engineering fundamentals (thermodynamics, fluid systems, mechanics, etc.)
  • Experience with data analysis tools (Excel, MATLAB, Python, or similar)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to testing, validation, or engineering projects
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods
  • Interest in data-driven engineering or AI-enabled tools
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

What Makes This Role Different

This is not a traditional school to work program focused only on execution or testing.

You will gain exposure to:

  • System-level thinking
  • Early-stage product decisions
  • Cross-functional engineering work
  • The use of Agentic AI and advanced tools to improve how engineering is done

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of hiring
  • Current Enrollment: You must be a current student in high school or in a college/university interested in pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Able to work up to 19 hours per week during the academic year
