Essential Role Responsibilities
Position Overview:
1. We are looking for two full-time Mathematics Faculty Members who will excel in delivering engaging and effective mathematics instruction for transitional support courses, gateway courses, and upper-level math courses.
2. The successful candidates will be able to teach courses such as statistics, mathematics for teachers, college algebra, precalculus, calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and discrete structures. Faculty carry an average load of 15 units per semester and teach a diverse population, including high school students enrolled in college courses at HCC.
3. Courses are taught through various teaching modalities, including face-to-face, virtual, online, and hybrid, and may be taught during the day or evening. Class sessions will be a mixture of traditional and accelerated term lengths.
4. Top applicants must also have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, possess strong communication skills, value collaboration and teamwork, and have a proven track record of working with a diverse student body.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Teach a variety of mathematics courses, including transitional support courses, college-level mathematics courses, and statistics.
  2. Develop and implement engaging and effective instructional materials and strategies for a variety of course modalities and term lengths.
  3. Utilize education technology effectively, including Learning Management Systems (LMS), online course development tools, graphing calculators, and free/low-cost software programs.
  4. Develop formative and summative assessments.
  5. Engage in curriculum development and assessment processes.
  6. Collaborate with colleagues to enhance educational practices and support student success.
  7. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  8. Participate in meetings, committee work, professional development activities, college-wide initiatives, and community outreach activities.
  9. Cultivate and maintain constructive and supportive relationships with students, staff, and faculty members.
  10. Fulfill these and other responsibilities of full-time faculty in accordance with collective bargaining agreement and college policies.

Requirements:
1. Minimum of a master's degree in mathematics, statistics, or a related (STEM) field, from a regionally accredited college or university, with 18 credit hours of graduate-level mathematics and/or statistics.
2. A minimum of one year of full-time equivalent mathematics teaching experience with a diverse student population at the community college level.
3. Authorized to work in the United States without employer visa sponsorship.

As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
