Position Summary
Southmont Junior High School is seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and compassionate Instructional Aide for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year. The junior high years are a critical time of academic and social growth. The Instructional Aide plays a vital role in our student success initiative, working under the direct guidance of certified teachers to reinforce classroom learning, provide targeted small-group support, and assist with essential campus supervisory duties.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong desire to support early adolescents, a flexible mindset to adapt to changing classroom environments, and a professional demeanor rooted in the supportive culture of Southmont.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Instructional Support
  • Assist classroom teachers by reinforcing instruction with individual students or small learning groups to ensure core concept mastery.
  • Help implement structured lesson plans, accommodations, and modifications outlined for students requiring extra academic assistance or individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Listen to students, answer questions, and provide encouragement during independent work blocks or collaborative lab settings.

2. Classroom & Clerical Assistance
  • Help the teacher prepare, organize, and distribute instructional materials, assignments, and digital resources.
  • Assist with routine administrative tasks such as organizing supplies, monitoring student progress tracking, or managing classroom displays.
  • Support students in navigating school-issued technology, learning platforms, and digital assignments.

3. Student Supervision & Junior High Campus Safety
  • Supervise junior high students during transition periods (hallways), lunch blocks, homeroom, study halls, or campus arrivals/dismissals as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive environment that encourages respect, responsibility, and academic engagement.
  • Promote positive student behavior in alignment with Southmont Junior High behavioral expectations and school policy.

4. All Other Duties as Assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Experience: Previous experience working with early adolescents or junior high-aged students in a school, tutoring, coaching, or camp setting is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong basic academic skills (reading, writing, and mathematics).
    • Exceptional communication, patience, and interpersonal skills to relate effectively with middle-school-aged youth, teachers, and administration.
    • Basic computer literacy (Google Workspace/Microsoft Office and general educational technology).
  • Ability to successfully pass all state-required background checks, fingerprinting, and health screenings (e.g., negative TB test) prior to the start of the school year.

Physical & Mental Demands
  • Must maintain emotional control under stress and manage classroom situations with fairness, consistency, and patience.
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, bending, and occasional lifting of small stacks of textbooks or classroom materials.
