Main Duties & Responsibilities
SUMMARY
This position requires comparable knowledge and performance in all phases of CNC machining and 5-axis CNC laser cutting, including setup, operation, and program editing. The role involves producing close-tolerance aerospace parts and tooling using CNC lathes, mills, and 5-axis laser equipment. The ideal candidate is experienced in working with various metal alloys, interpreting complex engineering drawings, and maintaining high standards of quality. Moderate physical activity is required, including lifting, bending, and prolonged standing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set up and operate CNC lathes, mills, and 5-axis CNC laser machines
• Configure fixtures, vises, and rotary tables for accurate machining and cutting operations
• Pick up part and fixture locations to establish proper machining and cutting planes
• Machine and cut parts to required tolerances and dimensions based on engineering drawings
• Perform mathematical calculations for angular and linear dimensions during fabrication and setup
• Select proper tooling and perform tool setup, including hand-grinding tools when necessary
• Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, etc.) to ensure compliance with specifications
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machining or laser-related issues in a timely manner
• Communicate machine, program, or quality issues to management promptly
• Maintain consistent quality and accuracy standards while meeting production requirements
• Follow all engineering, traveler, and shop instructions
• Collaborate with team members and support cross-functional shop operations
• Perform additional duties as assigned
On-Site: This role is required to be on-site 3 days (5AM-5:30PM) at the El Cajon, CA location.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of three (3)+ years of combined CNC machining and/or 5-axis laser experience.
• Strong background in CNC lathe and mill setup, operation, and program editing
• Experience setting up and operating 5-axis CNC laser machines
• Strong manual machining background preferred
• Proven ability to machine close-tolerance aerospace parts and minor tooling
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering instructions, and traveler documents
• Proficiency in working with dimensions and tolerances in both metric and inch formats
• Knowledge of various material types, including metal alloys, and proper machining methods
• Understanding of feeds and speeds for different materials and processes
• Ability to troubleshoot machining and laser cutting issues, including tool wear, breakage, and program errors
• Experience editing CNC/NC programs and making minor adjustments as needed
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with others and follow direction from supervisors
• Willingness to work on various assignments within or outside the machine shop/laser as needed

Compensation
In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $28-33/hr.
Compensation can vary depending on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
