What Does a Math Curriculum Writer Do?
As a math curriculum writer, your job is to write mathematics textbooks and other instructional content for students. This includes things like deciding which equations to teach, what sample problems to include, and what sample lessons to provide to teachers. You often create units of study, improve existing books and processes, and curate questions based on relevant real-world considerations. You may also use specialized software to write and display the math content in the final textbook. Most math curriculum writers focus on the K-12 grade range, as the higher levels become so specialized that no individual writer is able to make content for all classes.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Math Curriculum Writer, and why are they important?
What are some typical challenges Math Curriculum Writers face when aligning materials to educational standards?
What is the difference between Math Curriculum Writer vs Math Content Developer?
| Aspect | Math Curriculum Writer | Math Content Developer |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Degree in Education, Mathematics, or related field | Degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field |
| Work Environment | Educational publishing, curriculum design, e-learning companies | Online platforms, educational software, publishing |
| Employer & Industry | Schools, publishers, edtech companies | Edtech firms, publishers, online education providers |
Math Curriculum Writers focus on designing comprehensive math curricula aligned with standards, while Math Content Developers create specific math content, such as lessons, exercises, and multimedia materials. Both roles require strong math knowledge and educational background, but their scope differs: curriculum writers develop structured programs, whereas content developers produce individual educational materials.
