Job description

BookNook is seeking passionate educators to join our tutoring community as independent contractors, working up to 30 hours per week. BookNook tutors are on the front lines of working to close the opportunity gap for K-8 students during a key period of their educational journey. BookNook tutors conduct live, synchronous online tutoring sessions using the BookNook platform and video conferencing software.

This is an exciting opportunity to have a direct, positive impact on students on their path to achieving success in Math. BookNook tutors must reside in and work from the United States and have a US mailing address. We are unable to engage with tutors who reside in the following states: California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, and Vermont, as well as US territories.

Position Specifics Subject: K-8th grade math Position Type: 1099-eligible independent contractor Timeline: Programming typically runs during the school year, with the busiest months from September to May Pay Rate: $20 per hour ($10 per 30-minute session) Schedule: Up to 30 hours per week based on the tutor's availability and the number of active tutoring programs. Schedules may vary based on school requests Sessions are held only on weekdays (no weekends) and can be before, during, or after school Program duration varies. Tutors are expected to commit to a full program with the same group of students throughout (duration will be known when series are offered).

Responsibilities Conduct virtual tutoring sessions in Math using the BookNook platform. Lessons for math sessions include inquiry-based instruction, with a strong focus on explicit instruction. Curriculum and content will be provided within the platform.

Manage student behavior and engagement throughout sessions. Create a safe, respectful learning environment. Maintain positive relationships with students throughout the entire schedule of the program.

Document observations for each session. Requirements Must be at least 18 years old. Must reside in and work from the United States, and have a US mailing address.

Comfort instructing students in K-8th grade level math curriculum. Classroom experience and/or online teaching/tutoring experience in math is strongly preferred. Knowledge of and experience in mathematical best practices, specifically for intervention and assisting students struggling with mathematics.

Commitment to teaching in alignment with the provided curriculum lesson design, structure, and strategies. Access to a computer (laptop or desktop), webcam, clean and distraction-free environment, and reliable, high-speed internet connection with a speed of at least 20 Mbps is a necessity for the position. Ability to build meaningful connections with students to create an encouraging and motivating environment.
