Here's how a Materials Manager for PCL Industrial Construction Co. within US PICCo contributes to our team:

Responsibilities
  • Provide project/district management with support, standard methodologies, strategies, and estimates for change notices on material management, logistics, facilities, site services, construction equipment and indirect workforce.
  • Review of requests for proposals (RFP) and contract documents to assist in development of preliminary material management plans. Work with internal/external teams to reach agreement, gain acceptance, and implement project plans.
  • Provide input to district office and is involved with developing standard item libraries for project use and analyze data in the material/tool management system to ensure integrity and modifies as required.
  • Oversight of material planning and storage on projects and identifies the best method for supply and sets rules on requisition lead times and frequencies. .
  • Assess contract documents, for facility supply responsibilities, site management, and mitigation of surplus material,
  • Understand and evaluate client process, system requirements, company procedures and mitigate associated materials and storage risk.
  • Oversight, direction, training, guidance and mentorship for all project assigned material staff, and other project staff, trade supervision, and tradespeople on department procedures, project plans, and systems as required.
  • Audit to ensure facilities are set up and functioning according to approved plans.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma and/or under-graduate diploma/degree in a related field (e.g., supply chain management, procurement, logistics, warehouse distribution).
  • 8 years of dynamic and related proven experience in supply chain management, procurement, logistics, and/or warehouse distribution on large/very large construction projects preferred.
  • 5 years of progressive leadership and management experience.
  • Advanced construction knowledge in a broader range of specifications, drawings, bills of material, methods, and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of commonly used construction materials, permanent/nonpermanent materials, services, tools, and equipment. Works with project/district management to implement improvements to material supply on the project.
  • Thorough understanding of project logistics, tool crib, warehouse, laydown setup, organization, and standard methodologies. Can forecast overall project requirements, and design layouts and incorporate them into project plans.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Able to present to the internal and external project and district leaders.
  • Highly developed social skills with an ability to deal with people sensitively, considerately, and respectfully.
  • Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills, professional judgement, strong negotiating skills, and awareness of the impact on the company and projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key partners and decision-makers.
  • Strong drive, time management, and a sense of priority. Ability to assist in prioritization of shifting priorities for self and others in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Sophisticated use of critical thinking skills.
  • Work location mobility is often required.
