Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Planner/Material Manager is responsible for the day-to-day purchasing and planning for our Warwick RI facility. This role will assist with developing and implementing supplier and commodity strategies for sourcing direct & indirect items as well as planning & scheduling internally in the factory to ensure we are meeting customer needs. This position will drive continuous improvement throughout the areas of responsibility, often applying the appropriate lean principles. The Planner/Materials Manager supervises the Buyer/Planner I positions and is expected to be involved in the tactical day-to-day processes in their areas of responsibility.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Provide effective development and coaching of direct reports to improve overall effectiveness of the supply chain team including setting meaningful, clear goals and objectives.
  • Source direct materials, indirect materials, and services that align demand to sourcing activities to support the manufacturing operations.
  • Assists in developing and implementing strategies for suppliers and commodities to provide the highest quality products, on time, with the lowest total cost of ownership.
  • Create scorecards and conduct business reviews with key suppliers to drive performance improvements.
  • Strong customer focus, including ability to identify, mitigate, and communicate material shortages to internal and external customers.
  • Manage production planning including work order schedules and priorities, short- and long-term capacity planning, expedites, and reporting.
  • Track and improve metrics related to planning and purchasing.
  • Assist with information and material flow improvements in the various value streams and with the supply base.
  • Ensure correct and accurate inventory levels including establishing, maintaining, and auditing Kanban processes.
  • Collaborate across departments to support EHS activities & initiatives, quality improvement efforts, expedites, lean activities and new product development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS and EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Supply Chain, Operations, or Business.
  • Minimum of two-to-five (2-5) years of relevant experience, preferably strong knowledge of metals and brazing materials.
  • Strong leader who can develop and lead a team, previous supervisory experience considered a plus.
  • Ability to work independently in an ever-changing team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects at one time and see them to completion.
  • Strong professional communications, both written and verbal; collaborating behaviors that enable a strong supplier and internal relationships.
  • Proficiency in ERP (preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 or AX) and Microsoft Office.
  • Background in Lean Manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%
