Job description

Material Handler

The Material Handler plays an important role in keeping materials flowing efficiently throughout the facility. This position is responsible for transporting, staging, organizing, and preparing materials for use in production and other designated areas. The associate will operate material-handling equipment, maintain orderly workspaces, and help ensure that the appropriate materials are available to the right location when needed.

Forklift certification or willingness to become certified is required. Candidates who are not currently certified must obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport materials from storage locations to production areas and other designated destinations.
  • Supply production areas with raw materials, packaging materials, and necessary supplies.
  • Prepare and stage components, materials, and work orders according to operational needs.
  • Perform basic material preparation activities, including labeling, wrapping, and sorting.
  • Keep staging areas clean, organized, and free of unnecessary obstructions.
  • Apply FIFO (First-In, First-Out) procedures and follow established material rotation requirements.
  • Remove waste and help maintain proper organization of empty containers.
  • Provide support for receiving and shipping activities when needed.
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other approved material-handling equipment.
  • Perform additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • General knowledge of warehouse or material-handling operations.
  • Ability to understand and accurately follow written and verbal directions.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and use ERP systems and barcode scanning technology.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, physically active environment.
  • Dependable, team-focused approach with a strong work ethic.
  • Current forklift certification is required, or the ability to successfully obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, distribution, or similar environment is preferred.
  • Forklift certification is required within 90 days of employment if the candidate does not already hold a valid certification.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment:

This position involves regular physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials as part of normal job duties. The Materials Associate I must also be capable of working in cold-storage areas. Typical temperatures are approximately 40°F, with occasional exposure to environments as cold as -4°F.
