Job description

Come Grow with us!   We are seeking experienced Material Handlers at our Portland, TN facility. Pay starts out at $23.35 per hour plus an additional 10% shift premium. GENERAL SUMMARY
To ensure safe and efficient movement of product throughout the entire system. Work in the weld, press, and warehouse areas of the facility ensuring timely product/dunnage movement in your area of responsibility. Demonstrates a Continuous Improvement attitude with a willingness to adopt new ideas/skills using TQPS principles.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
A. Report all quality, production or safety problems to the team or group leader. Moves non-conforming material to MRB area.
B. Ensure quality parts are shipped according to customer requirements. Verify customer order match actual parts being moved to the next operation / location.
C. Stage dies as needed for changeovers in the area of responsibility (if applicable) and take to tool room after use.
D. Move material from storage to next designated work areas.
E. Remove dies from & place dies in the press during the changeover process (if applicable).
F. Assist in completing monthly and yearly physical inventories.
G. Unload inbound trailers with empty dunnage and put away in designated locations (if applicable).
H. Ensure all parts, containers (full or empty) are staged and scanned properly to a location in Shop Edge or located in designated container storage areas.
I. Remove labels from all containers.
J. Complete daily tow motor checklist.
K. Perform & maintain 5-S standards in area of responsibility.
L. Suggest methods of improvement, (i.e. continuous improvement plan & performance award program).
M. Available for overtime as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS


Education:
• Required - High school diploma or GED
• Required - Must pass fork truck certification @ NASG
• Basic computer skills
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Demonstrated basic math skills


Experience:
• 2 Years forklift experience preferably in manufacturing
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated experience in safe material handling practices
• Preferred previous experience in assembly / manufacturing environment


Personal/Technical Skills:
• Ability to work with a dynamic and demanding team.
• Accurate, efficient, & proactive in daily duties.
• Ability to conduct basic maintenance or mechanical activities as required.
• Ability to work at a fast pace.
• Accountable - teachable - approachable
• Ability to learn, make decisions, and be creative & flexible.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Capable of lifting 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand up for a minimum of 8 hours.


Language Skills:
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language (English). For the Mexico division this is preferred, not required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS


Plant:  Various types of manufacturing environments.
• Standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise level. 
• PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, Kevlar sleeves, hearing protection, etc. may be required in designated engineering, manufacturing, or industrial areas.  Personal attire standards may apply.
• Involves moderate or occasional presence of some slightly disagreeable conditions, i.e., cold, dust, heat, odor, etc.
