ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Packaging and Material Handling Engineer is a subject matter expert who will focus on optimizing packaging and material handling processes and drive continuous improvement in safety, product quality, consistency, cost, efficiency, throughput, and labor utilization in the Amrize facilities. The position is for a professional who applies advanced process knowledge of packaging and material handling systems, typically obtained through continued education and work experience utilizing lean principles, conducting time-studies, producing work layouts, value stream mapping, and developing financial routings.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH:
  • Transition new packaging and material handling processes through the development of effective manufacturing processes and equipment operation, working collaboratively with a multi-functional team to achieve success.
  • Perform trials, studies and capability analyses as needed to effectively understand and improve packaging material and material handling process capabilities.
  • Demonstrate use of statistical methodologies to understand, analyze and drive reduction in process variation.
  • Utilize Value Stream Mapping or other tools to analyze, design and manage the flow of material through the plants.
  • Support the CAPEX process by partnering with the project engineering team and provide input to projects involving packaging and material handling processes.
  • Lead kaikaku events and support kaizen in the facility related to packaging and material handling processes.
  • Analyze production performance results and implement improvements in packaging and material handling to reduce costs.
  • In conjunction with R&D, develop packaging specifications that meet customer and industry requirements.
  • Conduct time studies to highlight improvement areas to optimize machine and labor utilization in packaging and material handling.
  • Support development and implement action plans for continuous improvement in cost, safety, and quality in packaging and material handling systems.
  • Assist plants in updating and maintaining process documentation related to packaging and material handling.
  • Train operators and supervision on the proper operation of equipment and processes related to packaging and material handling systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Field of Study Preferred: Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Packaging Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering or plant manufacturing in related manufacturing industries with a focus on packaging and material handling
  • Required Computer and Software Skills:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Google applications
    • AutoCAD
    • Statistical analysis tools like Minitab
  • Travel: The position will support multiple sites and travel will be required as necessary.

Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrate detailed and efficient organization skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Work well under pressure to meet project deadlines.
  • Show high levels of commitment to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supply chain management, and strategic sourcing principles.
  • Experience in statistical process control, DOE, TPM, PFMEA and Lean/Six-Sigma Methodologies.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and managing budgets.
  • Familiarity with capital projects including engineering and construction is a plus.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators.
  • Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
