Job description

Position Summary

This hands-on plant floor role supervises, trains, and mentors the shift operations of the union production employees (semi-skilled and unskilled) to produce quality product and meet production goals. Key responsibilities include maintaining a safe work environment, monitoring workflow and output, conflict resolution, and working with QA to ensure proper product documentation. The Production Supervisor role is part of a team of leadership (up to two Supervisors per shift) reporting to the Production Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages all direct production activity including pre-scaling, mixing, cooking, depositing, cooling, packaging, labeling, and palletizing liquid food products.
  • Directly supervises 12 to 40 Union employees to achieve safety and production goals.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Manages production activity to ensure compliance with all formulations, specifications, methods, procedures, and practices so that product quality meets all specifications and standards for wholesomeness, appearance, dimension, weight, flavor, texture, etc.
  • Assists personnel in troubleshooting and working with QA and Maintenance for critical issues.
  • Analyzes management information to develop and implement new methods, procedures, and systems to improve efficiency, cost, quality, and safety performance.
  • Manages material usage to ensure minimal waste (scrap reduction) and maximum yield.
  • Supervises operation and directs all personnel activities to comply with all applicable safety laws and regulation, as well as Company safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintains time and production records (recordkeeping) and manages appropriate department records.
  • Responsible for all aspects of safety, food safety, continuous improvement/efficiency improvement and adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned.

Please note: Advertised salary range will depend upon experience, and reflects a range of total compensation, not just base salary.

Shift Hours: 2pm-10pm plus paperwork before or after

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Production or Operation Management, or other business, technical, or related discipline or applicable equivalent experience.
  • Five+ years manufacturing experience is required with food manufacturing preferred.
  • Three + years in a production shift leadership position or supervisor role.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to interact with all levels of staff.
  • Knowledge of production operation methodology and knowledge of various food processing cooking systems, packaging equipment and related equipment in manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to supervise and develop employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments and performance management.
  • Strong leadership and soft skills with the ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to develop, plan, reprioritize for changing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of GMP’s and FDA rules and regulations.
  • Must have a basic proficiency in MS Office.
  • The employee will routinely lift and handle objects up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 125 pounds.
