Department Information
Within this setting, the newly formed Department of Biomedical Sciences at Georgia Southern University is an interdisciplinary department providing programs designed to train students in broad areas focused on biomedical sciences to include biology, biochemistry, and other related disciplines, focusing on applications in health and disease. It is expected that a research-intensive program be developed for integration into the new innovative doctoral program and the Center for Biomedical Research and Innovation. The Department is home to both a bachelor's degree and the recently approved Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences. Developing a research-intensive, innovative doctoral program is the department's next step for growth. We are looking for visionary individuals to build a faculty team whose research exemplifies the biomedical innovation cycle from discovery, through evidence-based analysis, to cutting-edge solutions to build and grow our degree programs. Successful applicants will actively collaborate across college and institutional boundaries and contribute to the mission and growth of the university's Center for Biomedical Research and Innovation.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Department Chair of Biomedical Sciences, the Open Rank Faculty position requires 40% effort in teaching, 50% effort in research, and 10% effort in service. The positions are 10-month tenure-track appointments.
Required Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, biology, biochemistry, or a field in science that emphasizes biomedical science, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in biomedical science, biology, or biochemistry, by August 1, 2026
  • Research emphasis in biomedical sciences, biology, and biochemistry, or field related to biomedical science
  • Ability to successfully mentor and develop undergraduate and graduate student researchers
  • Academic background to teach courses in biomedical sciences (BMED), and/or Biochemistry (BCHM) and Biology (BIOL)
  • Commitment to teaching excellence in the undergraduate and graduate classroom
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline. Minimum of 5 years full-time college/university research and teaching experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of associate professor along with a strong record of research and service with a sustained level of research-based funding as Principal Investigator, publications, and presentations in professional venues.

Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience.
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
