College of Medicine, Medicine Biomedical Sciences
Responsibilities
  • Strategic Direction & Leadership: Provides strategic leadership for the department, articulating a vision for its future growth and impact in alignment with the medical school's mission and strategic plan. Fosters and supports a large interdisciplinary community of faculty researchers, educators, students and trainees.
  • Faculty Development: Responsible for the recruitment, mentorship, administrative supervision, and evaluation of all employed, contracted, and volunteer faculty in the Department. Champions the department's faculty, including their professional development, and ensures excellence in research, teaching, and service. Plays a key role in recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty, students, and staff.
  • Innovation and Research Development: Maintains an active, extramurally funded research program while also fostering an environment of innovative inquiry within the department by enhancing research infrastructure and grants oversight.
  • Collaboration with Other University and College of Medicine Programs: Fosters interprofessional and cross-organizational collaboration and respect for all disciplines and roles among faculty and trainees and across the university to advance FSU Health.
  • Curriculum Improvement: Provides direction in the design, development and management of the curriculum in the basic medical sciences. Oversees curricular enhancements through implementation of adult learning principles and integration of advanced technologies into curriculum delivery by the biomedical science faculty. Works with faculty across the school to ensure refinement of biomedical science content in a case-based curriculum model, including the representation of biomedical science education in clinical phases of the curriculum.

Qualifications
Doctoral Degree (PhD, MD/PhD, DO/PhD, or equivalent) in biomedical sciences or related discipline from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record of achievement as an accomplished scholar in teaching, academic research, and service. Academic achievements must meet the criteria for the rank of full Professor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clinical experience or experience in clinical collaborations are a plus.
  • Established record of excellence in managing and advancing extramurally funded research programs (NIH, NSF, foundations, industry grants, etc.).
  • A proven track record of successful leadership in medical education, including mentoring faculty, with significant experience in academic administration, program development, and implementation.
  • Exceptional strategic leadership capabilities, coupled with outstanding communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills, with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across a variety of stakeholders, including faculty, students, staff, and external partners.
  • Extensive experience managing and enhancing medical and biomedical education programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, with a focus on innovative and evidence-based practices.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, advancing, and implementing innovative biomedical science curricula and medical education programs.
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with institutional leadership, faculty, and external organizations to drive academic excellence, strengthen educational outcomes, and promote the College's mission and vision.
  • A record of nationally recognized achievement in research and clinical or educational pursuits commensurate with the rank of tenured full Professor.
