JOB SUMMARY
Our client, a global Medical Device company, is seeking a Principal Data Architect to lead the design, development, and governance of our enterprise data ecosystem within the R&D Software Data Analytics organization. This role is responsible for shaping the long-term data architecture strategy that enables analytics, AI, and digital product innovation across the company. The Senior Data Architect will define enterprise data standards, guide data infrastructure modernization, and collaborate across engineering, product, and business functions to ensure scalable, reliable, and compliant data systems. The ideal candidate combines technical depth in modern data architecture with strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills. This individual will influence key decisions on data platforms, cloud design, and governance practices while mentoring technical teams and advancing the organization's data maturity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Develop and maintain the enterprise data architecture roadmap, ensuring alignment with business strategy and product innovation goals.
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-performing data platforms using modern cloud technologies (Azure preferred).
  • Define and enforce data modeling, integration, and metadata management standards across business domains.
  • Partner with Data Engineering, Data Science, and Product teams to architect solutions that support advanced analytics, AI/ML, and data-driven applications.
  • Oversee data governance frameworks including data lineage, quality, and master data management.
  • Evaluate and recommend emerging tools, frameworks, and technologies to optimize data accessibility, security, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Information Security and Compliance teams to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Drive architectural reviews, technical assessments, and best practice adoption across distributed teams.
  • Mentor junior architects, data engineers, and analysts in design principles and system thinking.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on data strategy, architecture trade-offs, and long-term technology investments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise analytics roles.
  • Proven success designing and deploying enterprise-scale data systems using cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform).
  • Experience leading cross-functional data initiatives and influencing technical strategy
  • Background in medical device, healthcare, or other regulated industries preferred.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring teams and establishing architectural best practices.

Skills
  • Deep expertise in data modeling, data warehouse/lakehouse architecture, and ETL/ELT design.
  • Proficiency in modern data tools and technologies (Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks, Data Lake Storage, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of data governance, cataloging, and metadata management frameworks.
  • Experience integrating structured and unstructured data sources for analytics and machine learning.
  • Solid programming and query skills (SQL, Python, or equivalent).
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate architecture into business value.
