Job description

Marymount School seeks a skilled and dynamic head teacher to lead a Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten homeroom in our Lower School. Lower School Head Teachers play a central role in nurturing students' academic skills, cultivating curiosity, and building a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy. They thoughtfully differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of young learners. Teachers also cultivate classroom communities in which every student feels known, valued, and inspired to learn. They are also responsible for fostering joyful classroom communities in which each student feels known, valued, and inspired to learn.


At Marymount, all teachers strive to balance high expectations with deep support, fostering both academic excellence and student growth. Working closely with their grade-level teams, Lower School head teachers design purposeful, engaging learning experiences that invite students to think deeply, collaborate meaningfully, and connect with content in multiple ways.


Marymount teachers engage fully in the school community. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic about building strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues. They mentor and work closely with an associate teacher. Experience with Fundations and Responsive Classroom is a plus.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with colleagues to deliver a developmentally appropriate, academically rich curriculum integrating literacy, numeracy, social studies, and social-emotional learning.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet a range of developmental levels and learning styles within the classroom.
  • Build a structured, warm classroom environment that supports independence, curiosity, executive functioning, and positive relationships.
  • Communicate student progress through written reports, family conferences, and regular updates.
  • Actively support enrollment by engaging prospective families warmly during school tours, open houses, and admissions events.
  • Supervisory duties and responsibilities as requested by divisional head.


Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in elementary education or a related field
  • Experience teaching in early childhood or elementary school
