Job description

Job Summary: Operate a variety presses. This role is responsible for duties which involve positioning, aligning and bolting dies to ram and anvil, as well as checking machine set-up for proper usage and completing all necessary documentation.

Knowledge and Skills (Education):

  • High School Diploma or past work experience deemed to be comparable
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend in English
  • Strong communicator in the English language, both written and oral
  • Must have transfer and/or progressive press experience
  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in similar position or 3-5 years in a manufacturing environmental
  • Must have experience of working in a press shop with preference given to candidates with technical background
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities:

  • Pre-stage materials, tools and equipment required for the next production run
  • Use any checking gauges to ensure quality product
  • Job duties will involve positioning, aligning and bolting dies to ram and anvil, as well as, checking machine set-up for proper usage
  • Periodic adjustments to job setup may be required
  • Adjust shut-heights, cushion pressure on form and draw dies and set progress on feeders.
  • Ensure that only quality parts are passed onto the next operation, notify supervisor of quality related problems immediately
  • Complete all necessary documentation (production reports, quality alerts etc.) correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for tools or equipment assigned to perform duties
  • Communicate any equipment or safety concern to the Supervisor
  • Operate Lift Truck and Crane in a safe manner
  • Start, operate and shut off all presses or equipment in accordance with Martinrea' s safety policy
  • One may also be responsible in coordinating the set-up of dies and may also call for experience with metal stamping equipment, feeders, uncoilers, control panels, lube systems, automatic presses, tandem lines, cranes and lift trucks
  • Must be able to perform minor repairs (adjust grippers, cut and re-align steel)
  • Abide by all Company policies including, but not limited to the following: health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook

Decision Making and Authority:

  • Instruct Press Catchers and Press Set-up as to proper methods and safety when operating any equipment
  • Co-ordinate changeover with production operators

Working Conditions:

  • 100% plant floor (PPE required)
  • This position is physically demanding and must be able to lift more than 25lbs

Back-up Duties:

  • Perform other duties as required
