The Senior Manager, MarTech Data & Platforms Engineering is responsible for leading the architecture, engineering, governance, and operational excellence of the enterprise Marketing Technology data ecosystem. This leader owns the platforms, frameworks, and engineering practices that enable customer data collection, integration, transformation, activation, analytics, measurement, and privacy compliance across the MarTech landscape.
This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management and strategic execution. The Senior Manager drives the modernization of customer data platforms, cloud data infrastructure, digital data collection, identity management, and activation services while leading engineering teams responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and compliant solutions.
The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in cloud data platforms, marketing technology, customer data ecosystems, privacy regulations, platform engineering, and modern software engineering practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MarTech Data Platform Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and execute the technology roadmap for MarTech data and platform engineering.
  • Lead the architecture and evolution of customer data platforms, marketing data services, and activation frameworks.
  • Establish scalable architectures supporting batch, streaming, and real-time data use cases.
  • Drive modernization initiatives across data ingestion, data transformation, and data provisioning capabilities.
  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture to align MarTech technology investments with enterprise standards.

Data Engineering & Platform Delivery

  • Lead engineering teams responsible for data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and activation services.
  • Deliver scalable pipelines supporting customer profiles, audience activation, campaign execution, personalization, and measurement use cases.
  • Own platform reliability, scalability, performance, resiliency, and technical debt management.
  • Establish engineering standards, reusable frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and automation practices.
  • Ensure operational excellence through proactive monitoring and observability.

Customer Data & Activation Services

  • Oversee customer data management capabilities across CDP, AEP, Snowflake, and activation platforms.
  • Enable audience creation, segmentation, identity resolution, and customer journey orchestration capabilities.
  • Support activation use cases across web, mobile, email, media, CRM, and analytics ecosystems.
  • Drive consistency of customer data across platforms and channels..

Platform Governance & Vendor Management

  • Establish governance processes for platform configuration, integrations, and data quality.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with MarTech vendors.
  • Lead vendor evaluations, contract support, and technology rationalization efforts.
  • Drive adoption of engineering and operational best practices.

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of engineers, architects, and technical leads.
  • Create a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide direction for staffing, workforce planning, vendor management, and talent Development.
  • Mentor engineers and managers in architecture, engineering practices, and platform strategy.
  • Establish KPIs and OKRs aligned to platform reliability, delivery, quality, and business outcome
  • Foster a culture of ownership, documentation, testing, and compliance-first engineering.

Core Technical Skills Required

  • Snowflake, Databricks, AWS/Azure data services.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, ETL/rETL frameworks, Streaming, Data modeling, API integrations.
  • Experience with Adobe Web SDK and server-side data collection
  • Background in platform engineering or modern front-end frameworks
  • Experience implementing mobile app tracking using iOS and Android SDKs.
  • CI/CD, version control, and deployment processes, GitHub / GitLab, observability and monitoring.

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Ability to lead through influence while remaining deeply technical
  • Clear communicator with engineers, product teams, marketers, and executives
  • Strong bias toward clean implementation, documentation, and long-term maintainability
  • Comfort making architectural decisions in ambiguous or regulated environments

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent combination of advanced education and experience, which could include any combination of 8 years of experience in IT software engineering, 5 years’ relevant business experience (i.e. making technical-related decisions on the business side), 5 years’ experience in project management, and at least 2 years of management experience
3. Advanced management and leadership experience leading teams.
4. Developing expertise and knowledge of software architecture, development lifecycle, and technology strategy.

  • 10+ years of software, data, or platform engineering experience.
  • 5+ years leading engineering teams and large-scale technology programs.
  • Deep expertise in customer data management, cloud engineering solutions, federated data and mesh data architecture.
  • Strong background in cloud-native architecture, data engineering, and privacy-compliant solutions.
  • Proven experience driving modernization, automation, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders from engineers to executive leadership.

The annual base salary for this position in Richmond and Raleigh is $133,000-188,000.
