What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Martech Consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Martech Consultant, you need expertise in marketing strategy, data analytics, and a thorough understanding of digital marketing channels, usually supported by a relevant degree and experience in marketing or technology. Familiarity with marketing automation platforms (such as HubSpot, Marketo, or Salesforce Marketing Cloud), CRM systems, and certifications like Google Analytics or platform-specific credentials are typically required. What are Martech Consultants?

Martech Consultants are professionals who help organizations select, implement, and optimize marketing technology (martech) solutions to improve marketing performance. They assess a company's marketing needs, recommend suitable software and tools, and assist with integrating these technologies into existing processes. Martech Consultants also provide guidance on data strategy, automation, analytics, and digital transformation to ensure marketing efforts are efficient and effective. Their expertise bridges the gap between marketing and IT, enabling companies to leverage technology for better customer engagement and ROI.

What jobs will no longer exist in 2030?

By 2030, roles heavily reliant on manual data entry, basic administrative tasks, and routine customer service may decline due to automation and AI advancements. For a Martech Consultant, this shift emphasizes the growing importance of strategic digital marketing skills, data analysis, and familiarity with marketing automation tools, as repetitive tasks become automated. Adaptability to new technologies will be essential for future job security.

These positions often require expertise in data analysis, campaign management, and familiarity with tools like Google Analytics or marketing automation platforms, along with strong leadership abilities.

How do Martech Consultants typically collaborate with marketing and IT teams within an organization?

Martech Consultants often serve as a crucial bridge between marketing and IT teams, facilitating communication to ensure marketing goals align with technical capabilities. They work closely with marketers to understand campaign objectives and recommend appropriate technology solutions, while also partnering with IT to implement, integrate, and maintain these platforms. This collaborative approach helps streamline workflows, maximize ROI, and ensure data integrity across systems. Effective collaboration often involves regular meetings, clear documentation, and ongoing training for both teams.

Job description

Builden Partners
Legal Marketing Technology (MarTech) Consultant Job Description
February 2026
Builden Partners is seeking an experienced legal marketing technology (MarTech) consultant with deep, hands-on law firm CRM expertise to support project-based client engagements that require technical skill, system optimization and practical, execution-focused support. This is a remote, flexible contract role ideal for independent professionals who understand how law firms actually use CRM systems (and where they struggle) and can translate strategy into efficient, scalable workflows.
As a contractor, you'll partner with Builden and its clients on defined scopes of work related to CRM optimization, workflow development, data integrity, marketing automation and technology adoption.
About Builden
Builden Partners is redefining how law firms approach marketing and business development. Headquartered in Chicago and serving clients nationwide, our process-driven approach to law firm marketing has fueled remarkable growth, earning us a spot on the 2025 Inc. 5000 Fastest-Growing Companies List.
Serving a diverse client base ranging from premier legal boutiques to global powerhouses, we transform fragmented marketing efforts into cohesive, forward-looking strategies that resonate with clients and drive growth. Our culture is collaborative, supportive and built on continuous learning.
Builden also runs the highly regarded law firm marketing trade group Legal & Professional Services Counsel.
Project-Based Responsibilities
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on leading law firm CRM platforms (e.g., Intapp DealCloud, Salesforce, HubSpot, InterAction+, Nexl, Dynamics, Zoho, etc.).
  • Support CRM implementation, configuration, migration, cleanup and optimization projects.
  • Contribute to change management efforts, including stakeholder communications, user engagement planning and adoption strategies tailored to law firm cultures.
  • Develop and deliver training programs, including live trainings, one-on-one sessions, recorded demos, quick-reference guides and full training manuals.
  • Advise on best practices for data structure, contact management, experience tracking, activity capture, segmentation and reporting in the law firm environment.
  • Assist with marketing automation, email campaign setup, event tracking and integrations with third-party tools (e.g., event platforms, proposal systems, website forms).
  • Troubleshoot CRM and MarTech issues and provide clear, practical and action-oriented recommendations.
  • Translate marketing and BD goals into scalable workflows, automations, dashboards and reports that improve efficiency and transparency.
  • Collaborate with other consultants, BD leaders, marketers, IT teams and attorneys at client firms to ensure alignment across people, processes and technology.
  • Document processes, system configurations, requirements and recommendations in clear, user-friendly formats that support long-term sustainability.

Ideal Candidate
  • Hands-on experience working with CRM systems inside Am Law or mid-sized law firms, or within professional services organizations such as consulting, accounting or financial services, with a track record of improving adoption and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan change initiatives tailored to law firm cultures.
  • Experience designing and delivering multi-format training and developing user-friendly training assets.
  • Strong understanding of law firm marketing and business development operations.
  • CRM and MarTech proficiency, including:
    • CRM configuration, administration and optimization
    • Data hygiene, governance, segmentation and reporting
    • Marketing automation and email marketing tools
    • CRM integrations and APIs (functional familiarity)
  • Strong data management and analytics skills with the ability to build actionable dashboards and reports aligned to business development goals and KPIs.
  • Skilled in requirements gathering, roadmap planning and strategic consulting.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • A mindset that blends strategic thinking with practical, roll-up-your-sleeves execution.
  • Understanding of legal industry expectations around confidentiality, data privacy and information security.
  • Ability to manage multiple client priorities independently and deliver high-quality work on deadline.

What you can expect:
  • Meaningful, project-based work with sophisticated Am Law and mid-sized law firm clients.
  • A collaborative, engaged team that will set you up for success and treat you as a true partner.
  • Project rates commensurate with your experience and scope.
  • Flexible, autonomous work structure with the ability to manage your own schedule.
  • Opportunity for ongoing project work as Builden's client base continues to grow.

Builden's core values:
  • Jump in with a great attitude
  • Get things done
  • Add value all the time
  • Embrace growth
