What is a marketing operations manager?

A marketing operations manager supervises marketing department staff to maintain productivity and smooth operations. Unlike a marketing project manager who focuses on a particular marketing campaign, a marketing operations manager oversees the overall marketing department and ensures the staff meets their goals. Job duties include evaluating market trends to develop new marketing strategies, creating department goals, delegating project tasks to employees, and training new marketing employees. Qualifications for this career include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing, business administration, or a related field, extensive marketing experience, and leadership skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a marketing operations manager?

To thrive as a Marketing Operations Manager, you need expertise in marketing strategy, data analysis, project management, and a bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field. Familiarity with marketing automation platforms (like HubSpot or Marketo), CRM systems, and analytics tools is typically required, along with certifications such as Salesforce or Google Analytics. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help drive cross-functional collaboration and process optimization. These skills ensure seamless marketing execution, data-driven decision-making, and alignment between marketing initiatives and overall business objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by marketing operations managers when aligning marketing technology with organizational goals?

Marketing Operations Managers often encounter challenges when ensuring that marketing technology stacks effectively support broader business objectives. Integrating new tools with existing systems, maintaining data accuracy across platforms, and securing buy-in from cross-functional teams can be complex. Additionally, staying updated with rapidly evolving marketing technologies while balancing cost and utility requires ongoing attention. Successful Marketing Operations Managers proactively communicate with stakeholders, regularly evaluate tech performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement to address these hurdles.

Job description

We’re looking for a highly organized Marketing Campaign Manager to support Brand Leads and the Social team by designing workstreams and assisting in goal setting and tracking. This person will oversee the implementing and monitoring of those workstreams, keeping timelines on track, and deliverables flowing smoothly across teams. This role is critical to the day-to-day execution of marketing initiatives and serves as the connective tissue between brand, creative, media, product, and operations partners.

You’ll be responsible for project setup, asset trafficking, meeting coordination, and
delivery tracking—ensuring that ideas are fully explored and then turned into finished work, on time and with clarity.

What You’ll Do
• Support multiple Brand Leads by managing marketing projects from kickoff through delivery
• Help set data-informed goals for activations and support measurement over time
• Set up and maintain projects in Monday.com, including timelines, task owners, dependencies, and status updates
• Traffic creative assets and briefs between internal teams and external partners
• Coordinate meetings, agendas, notes, and follow-ups to keep teams aligned and unblocked
• Track deliverables across multiple groups and ensure deadlines are met
• Maintain clear documentation of scopes, timelines, and approvals
• Flag risks, delays, or resource conflicts early and propose solutions
• Serve as a reliable point of contact for day-to-day project questions and updates
• Help standardize processes and improve team efficiency over time

Who You Are
• Early in your project management or marketing operations career, with a strong desire to learn and grow
• Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple projects at once
• Confident using project management tools—especially Monday.com—or quick to learn them
• A clear communicator who follows through and keeps people accountable in a collaborative way
• Comfortable working with cross-functional teams and juggling competing priorities
• Proactive, dependable, and calm under deadline pressure

Nice to Have
• Experience supporting marketing, brand, or creative teams
• Familiarity with asset trafficking, creative workflows, or production timelines
• Exposure to digital marketing, media, or product-related projects

Why This Role Matters
This role enables Brand Leads to focus on strategy and creative direction by ensuring execution runs smoothly. You’ll gain exposure to multiple brand initiatives, cross-functional teams, and real-world marketing operations—making this an excellent foundation for future growth in brand, project management, or marketing operations.
