What is a marketing operations manager?

A marketing operations manager supervises marketing department staff to maintain productivity and smooth operations. Unlike a marketing project manager who focuses on a particular marketing campaign, a marketing operations manager oversees the overall marketing department and ensures the staff meets their goals. Job duties include evaluating market trends to develop new marketing strategies, creating department goals, delegating project tasks to employees, and training new marketing employees. Qualifications for this career include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in marketing, business administration, or a related field, extensive marketing experience, and leadership skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a marketing operations manager?

To thrive as a Marketing Operations Manager, you need expertise in marketing strategy, data analysis, project management, and a bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field. Familiarity with marketing automation platforms (like HubSpot or Marketo), CRM systems, and analytics tools is typically required, along with certifications such as Salesforce or Google Analytics. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help drive cross-functional collaboration and process optimization. These skills ensure seamless marketing execution, data-driven decision-making, and alignment between marketing initiatives and overall business objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by marketing operations managers when aligning marketing technology with organizational goals?

Marketing Operations Managers often encounter challenges when ensuring that marketing technology stacks effectively support broader business objectives. Integrating new tools with existing systems, maintaining data accuracy across platforms, and securing buy-in from cross-functional teams can be complex. Additionally, staying updated with rapidly evolving marketing technologies while balancing cost and utility requires ongoing attention. Successful Marketing Operations Managers proactively communicate with stakeholders, regularly evaluate tech performance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement to address these hurdles.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, loves keeping things organized, and takes pride in making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

This role requires someone who can take ownership quickly, manage multiple moving pieces at once, and operate with a high level of follow-through and accountability.

Responsibilities Marketing Campaign Execution
  • Manage execution of promotions, launches, and seasonal campaigns
  • Own the marketing calendar and ensure deadlines are met
  • Coordinate deliverables across internal teams, vendors, and locations
  • Ensure campaigns launch accurately and consistently

  • Build and deploy company-wide email and SMS campaigns
  • Manage automated flows and campaign scheduling
  • Coordinate audience segmentation and targeting
  • Monitor campaign performance and identify opportunities for improvement

  • Manage marketing-related setup within Resova and related platforms
  • Configure promo codes, pricing settings, waiver messaging, and upsells
  • Coordinate setup for new room launches and promotions
Website & Digital Coordination
  • Coordinate homepage banners, room pages, promotions, and announcements
  • Work with web and creative vendors to maintain accurate website content
Listings & Reputation Management
  • Maintain business listings across Google, Yelp, Apple Maps, TripAdvisor, Bing, and SOCi
  • Update hours, photos, closures, and location information
  • Review and approve guest review responses
Store Communication & Support
  • Serve as a marketing contact for store leadership teams
  • Communicate promotions, launches, and campaign details
  • Coordinate ordering of signage and in-store marketing materials
  • Help maintain consistency across all locations
Vendor Coordination
  • Manage day-to-day communication with agency and platform partners
  • Track timelines, approvals, and deliverables
  • Keep projects moving forward and organized
Process Improvement & AI
  • Improve workflows, systems, and documentation
  • Use AI and automation tools to improve efficiency and organization
  • Help streamline repetitive tasks and operational processes
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in marketing operations, project coordination, marketing execution, or similar operational roles
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong communication, follow-through, and attention to detail
  • Experience working with vendors, agencies, or external partners
  • Tech-savvy and quick to learn new systems and platforms
  • Ability to work independently while staying highly collaborative
Preferred Experience
  • Google Business Profile
  • Meta Ads Manager
  • Attentive or similar email/SMS platforms
  • SOCi or listings/reputation tools
  • Marketing automation systems

Multi-location, franchise, hospitality, entertainment, or operational support experience is a plus.

What We’re Looking For
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Calm under pressure and adaptable in fast-paced environments
  • A proactive problem solver who follows through
  • Comfortable coordinating across teams, vendors, and locations
  • Someone who naturally creates order and efficiency
