Job description

Summary 

The Marketing Intern supports the Champaign Park District’s Marketing Department by assisting with the creation, coordination, and distribution of digital and print marketing materials. This role helps promote Park District programs, events, facilities, and initiatives through social media content, photography, videography, writing, community outreach, and general campaign support. The Marketing Intern will gain hands-on experience in public relations, brand management, digital media, and marketing strategy within a local government agency. 


Qualifications 

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from various Park District sites 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (if required to travel between sites) 
  • Must be able to pass a background check and comply with all Champaign Park District employment policies 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) or the ability to learn required software 
  • Must demonstrate basic customer service and communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with the public and staff 

Supervision 

The Marketing Intern is directly responsible to the Director of Marketing. The Marketing Intern does not supervise any faculty, part-time staff, or other interns. 


Classification 

  • Hourly, non-exempt 
  • Up to 40 hours per week (based on program requirements and availability) 
  • 10 to 12 weeks, depending on requirements of the college or university

  • First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification

  • Driver training and test

Essential Functions 

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, and fellow employees. 
  • Assist with the creation of marketing content including flyers, social media posts, promotional videos, and digital graphics. 
  • Support social media scheduling, monitoring, and engagement according to Park District guidelines. 
  • Photograph and/or film programs, events, and facilities for use in marketing materials. 
  • Assist with editing and organizing photos and videos for digital asset libraries. 
  • Help maintain and update the Park District website and event calendars as directed. 
  • Conduct outreach such as distributing printed materials, attending community events, and gathering testimonial or story content. 
  • Provide support for marketing campaigns, special events, and seasonal promotions. 
  • Perform basic administrative tasks such as data entry, inventorying promotional materials, organizing files, and preparing reports. 
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with patrons or program participants. Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all times. 
  • Comply with equal opportunity and harassment laws, policies, and procedures.
