Summary

The Senior Vetting Coordinator is a vital part of Marathon Petroleum's Global Marine Assurance process. Primarily tasked with the vetting of vessels and technical operators that carry MPC cargo and/or call MPC terminals, the ideal candidate is detail oriented, has a strong background in marine operations and risk management, an ability to multi-task, and works collaboratively with other internal and external teams. Additional tasks may include conducting, or participating in, MPC's inspection programs. Experience with gas carriers, specifically LPG, is preferred, but not required.

The Senior Vetting Coordinator will report directly to the Marine Assurance Director. This position is located in the Marathon San Antonio, TX office (preferred) or the Marathon Houston, TX office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Makes vetting decisions based on company standards for approving or rejecting marine vessels.
  • Validates and provides feedback on SIRE inspections submitted on behalf of Marathon Petroleum Co LP.
  • Conducts verification audits of the Oil Company International Marine Forum (OCIMF) Tanker Management Self-Assessment (TMSA) and composes a written report for existing and potential time charter technical operators.
  • Conducts verification audits of the Oil Company International Marine Forum (OCIMF) Ship-to-Ship Service Provider Management Self-Assessment (STSSPMSA) and composes a written report for approved and potential STS service providers.
  • Collects, reviews and updates information on domestic and international ports/terminals/berths, Ship to Ship (STS) transfer locations, and other marine services.
  • Conducts time charter technical operator reviews.
  • Represents Marathon Petroleum Company at marine industry forums.
  • Provides marine subject matter expertise and technical support to the business.
  • Manages and resolves issues as required.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, maritime/naval academy preferred, OR High School Diploma/GED plus five (5) years of maritime industry experience.

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Five (5) years industry experience required, additive to minimum education requirements

Additional Preferred Experience/Abilities

  • Time served as Senior Deck/Engine Officer (Captain, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer)
  • Time served on LPG vessels
  • Ability to work autonomously and lead continuous improvement of the marine assurance processes and system.
  • Ability to work after hours when necessary and on weekends for a rotational vetting duty
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (TWIC, Passport) up to 25% of working hours
  • Familiarity with OCIMF, US and International regulations, Class rules, etc.
  • Existing SIRE Inspector accreditation or desire to achieve accreditation
