Job description

Job Title: Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Analyst

Location: 6315 Bren Mar Drive, Alexandria, VA 22312

Summary: The GIS Analyst supports the Operations Center by collecting, analyzing, and visualizing geospatial data to maintain situational awareness, inform decision-making, and support incident response and reporting. The analyst develops and maintains GIS products and applications, collaborates with partners, and provides training and technical guidance on geospatial tools and capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret geographic information from geodetic surveys, aerial imagery, and satellite data.
  • Research, develop, and maintain maps and other spatial data in digital and graphic formats for legal, social, political, educational, design, and operational purposes.
  • Design and evaluate algorithms, data structures, and user interfaces to support GIS and mapping systems, as required.
  • Maintain the GIS database and ensure that all data layers are accurate, relevant, and regularly updated.
  • Configure, maintain, and enhance ESRI portal applications, including Web AppBuilder, Survey123, Workforce, and StoryMaps.
  • Develop and modify GIS applications and tools to support Operations Center and mission requirements.
  • Maintain GIS portal Group membership and archive outdated or unused materials and drafts.
  • Maintain situational awareness of related events, incidents, and threats.
  • Maintain and update the Common Operating Picture (COP) with relevant geospatial information.
  • Provide GIS support for incident reporting, briefings, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Prepare executive-level geospatial products and reports, including Senior Leader Briefs as directed by the Senior Watch Officer (SWO).
  • Produce routine and ad hoc reporting products and briefings to support operational decision-making.
  • Coordinate with other programs that have geospatial elements (e.g., MIST, telematics, and similar initiatives).
  • Coordinate with the Geospatial Center of Excellence on the use and integration of provided geospatial capabilities, both current and emerging.
  • Train watch standers and personnel on the use of GIS applications, tools, and products.
  • Provide ongoing technical support and user assistance for GIS-related systems and workflows.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in geographic information systems analysis or closely related work.
  • Proficiency in GIS analysis, map production, and spatial data management.
  • Demonstrated experience with ESRI products, including the ability to configure, modify, or program within ESRI portal applications (Web AppBuilder, Survey123, Workforce, StoryMaps).
  • Strong skills in developing visual and graphic products, including advanced presentation development for executive audiences.
  • Ability to perform all functional duties independently in an operational environment.
  • Bachelor's (BA/BS) or Master's (MA/MS) degree in Geography, GIS, Geospatial Science, Cartography, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Active Secret security clearance is required for this position.
