Job description

Job Title: ย Associate Manager, Manufacturing Engineering

Job Description:

Provide leadership and direction to Manufacturing Engineers on their assigned programs.ย  Improve overall manufacturing efficiencies and throughput via process development, scheduling, process documentation, product assembly and production processing, problem solving and program management.ย  Design, install and debug tooling and capital equipment.ย  Encourage the use of lean/six sigma techniques to smooth production flow and eliminate waste and inefficiency. Also serve as the manufacturing engineer on one or more major production programs; responsible for creating, documenting, developing and implementing procedures used to assemble, process, test and manufacture the company's products.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to manufacturing engineers on their assigned programs. Responsibilities include planning, coordination, and leadership to ensure cost, schedule, and technical performance goals are met.
  • Develop and implement plans and strategies for expanding production capabilities and maximizing efficiencies.
  • Hire, develop, and retain manufacturing engineers.
  • Supervise, coach, and remove barriers for manufacturing engineers.ย 
  • Develop and implement manufacturing engineering plans and schedules including process flows, test and inspection points, flow tags, assembly aids, use of automated test equipment, training needs and requirements.ย  This includes development of work instructions, test plans, test procedures, etc...., consistent with program requirements.ย  Set up equipment, ensure its satisfactory operation, and instruct others to use the equipment properly.
  • Recommend optimum partitioning of work for in-house assembly and test versus outsourcing to subcontractors or vendors.
  • Support design engineering during the design / development process to ensure that the design represents a cost-effective solution in terms of reliability, producibility, and supportability and meets the performance requirements over the life of the product.ย  Design tools and/or machines of varying types (some of a very complex nature) for use in the manufacture of company products.

Qualifications:

  • Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects, tactics, and employees within a team.
  • Strong knowledge and skills within manufacturing and an understanding of the impact of work on other areas of the organization.ย 
  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 6 years prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Provide support at configuration control board meetings.
  • Interface with vendors and outside sales personnel to evaluate, cost estimate, and select purchase parts.
  • Develop and implement Lean-based standards for manufacturing processes that can be used to assess yield, rework, and scrap of products produced by the company.
  • Ensure conformity to internal safety practices and regulations as well as coordinate company's safety efforts with outside regulatory bodies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent training and education in lean manufacturing.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Maryland is $104,000- $155,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
