Experienced Manufacturing Engineers (Assembly and Installation)

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is looking for Experienced Manufacturing Engineers to join our team in BDS Manufacturing Engineering Capability located in various BDS Sites, which include: Albuquerque, NM, Arlington, VA, Cleveland, OH, Dallas, TX, El Segundo, CA, Everett, WA, Houston, TX, Huntington Beach, CA, Huntsville, AL, Kennedy Space Center, FL, Kent, WA, Mesa, AZ, New Orleans, LA, Ogden, UT, Oklahoma City, OK, Palmdale, CA, Philadelphia, PA, San Antonio, TX, St. Charles, IL, and West Hills, CA.

This position reports to the BDS Manufacturing Engineering Capability and selected individuals will have the opportunity to support multiple BDS production programs as a manufacturing engineer in varying capacities. The ideal candidates will have strong balance between technical skills, strength in communications, presentation, creativity, vision, and work ethic.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements production and tooling methodologies

  • Participates on Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to integrate technical solutions across multiple disciplines

  • Develops, identifies and implements conceptual designs and maintains the program architecture for build

  • Leads and implements manufacturing plans

  • Conducts producibility and variation analyses to ensure that manufacturing process capability matches requirements

  • Assists in providing producibility information for inclusion in project plans and helps document producibility best practices

  • Analyzes design/build concepts to evaluate producible design/build definitions

  • Resolves technical problems of significant impact to performance, cost or schedule

  • Coordinates and implements new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies and concepts

  • Validates and ensures production readiness of solutions to complex problems.

  • Implements lean principles and technologies

Additional Position Responsibilities:

  • Support programs to develop manufacturing plans, Bill of Materials (BOM), and oversee plan optimization, including 3D Model Based Work Instructions (MBIs).

  • Conduct complex producibility and variation analyses to ensure that manufacturing process capability matches requirements.

  • Resolve complex technical problems.

  • Ensure that contract requirements, specifications, design criteria and schedule

  • performance are integrated and maintained.

  • Support advanced design solutions and supports research of new products or business opportunities.

  • Deploy company Lean Enterprise analysis methods.

  • Document and communicate manufacturing engineering producibility best practices.

  • Excellent teamwork and written/oral communications skills to effectively collaborate with

  • various engineering disciplines, suppliers and customers.

  • Technical problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis complete with sound engineering based corrective actions

  • Excellent written, verbal, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team's discretion and could potentially change in the future.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5+ years working in a manufacturing/production environment

  • Working knowledge of ME processes and procedures including Manufacturing Execution System Computer Aided Process Planning

  • 3+ years' experience working with manufacturing engineering planning systems such as MESci and/or GOLD

  • Experience supporting aircraft production, development, and/or sustainment program(s)

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 7+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer

  • Experience with BDS production programs, products, and specifications

  • Experience in both assembly and fabrication environments

  • Experience in various disciplines such as electrical, structural, mechanical, systems,

  • functional test

  • Competency in 2D/3D Model Based Work Instructions and PDM software

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
