Trane Technologies is seeking aDesign for Manufacturability SME (subject matter expert) to support the development of high-quality, cost-effective, and manufacturable products. This role partners closely with engineering, operations, operational excellence, sourcing, quality, and product development teams to ensure designs are optimized for efficient production, assembly, reliability, and continuous improvement.The ideal candidate combines strong engineering fundamentals with practical manufacturing knowledge and a collaborative mindset to influence product design from concept through production launch.

Core Job Responsibilities Include (others may be added):

  • Collaborate with design engineering teams to ensure products are designed for manufacturability, assembly, quality, and cost

  • Review product designs, drawings, specifications, and bills of materials to identify manufacturing risks and improvement opportunities

  • Provide DFM/DFA recommendations early in the product development cycle to reduce complexity, improve yield, and shorten production time

  • Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, sourcing, and quality teams to support new product introduction and production readiness

  • Drive design improvements that enhance producibility, reliability, serviceability, and safety

  • Support prototype builds, pilot production, process validation, and manufacturing launch activities

  • Analyze root causes of manufacturing issues and implement corrective and preventive actions

  • Evaluate tooling, fixtures, equipment, and production processes to ensure alignment with product design requirements

  • Support cost reduction and value engineering initiatives without compromising product performance or quality

  • Develop and maintain documentation related to manufacturing requirements, process improvements, and lessons learned

  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews and provide technical input on manufacturability and process capability

  • Promote continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar problem-solving methodologies

  • Position is expected to travel regularly and in some cases for up to 50% if required

Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Education -Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field

  • Minimum 10 years combined experience inproduct design, manufacturing engineering, design for manufacturing, or new product introduction

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, welding, casting, molding, assembly, or related production methods

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and BOM structures

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD systems and product lifecycle management tools

  • Knowledge of Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Cost, and value engineering principles

  • Familiarity with APQP, PFMEA, control plans, and process validation practices

  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement tools

  • Exposure to global manufacturing environments and supplier collaboration

  • Ability to influence without direct authority and lead through cross-functional collaboration

  • Knowledge of HVACProduct, industrial equipment, or electromechanical product manufacturing is a plus
