You will be the Manufacturing Engineering Lead (Optics Manufacturing Associate Manager) for the Optical Components Center. Our team is responsible for ultra precision machining, thin film coatings, and the production of complex optical components.
What You Will Be Doing
As the Manufacturing Engineering Lead you will direct a team of 5 10 engineers, driving best in class manufacturing practices for high performance optics.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead business execution by applying statistical process control, design of experiments, advanced analytics, and root‑cause analysis to continuously improve process yield, cost, and schedule.

  • Manage non‑recurring projects from concept through production, ensuring design‑for‑manufacture and automation requirements are met.

  • Champion technology advancement by steering research, development, and integration of new manufacturing equipment and processes.

  • Develop and deliver capital‑improvement plans that expand capability, capacity, and next‑generation readiness.

  • Build organizational talent through manpower planning, hiring, training, and ongoing performance coaching for the engineering team.

Basic Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications :
o Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Optical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering or closely related technical field.
o Manufacturing Engineering Experience working in a Manufacturing environment with responsibility for developing, implementing and troubleshooting manufacturing processes.
o Experience in all aspects of the manufacturing engineering responsibility including; production support, non-recurring activities, capital investment and research and development.
o The ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance is required.
Desired Skills:
o Skills and/or experience in one or more categories of optics manufacturing engineering;
- Fabrication technologies including CNC Grinding/Generating and Polishing, Single Point Diamond Turning, Magnetorheological Finishing, Optics Metrology supporting manufacture of lenses, windows, domes and/or mirrors.
- Coating/Gridding technologies including Coat/Expose/Develop, metal and thin film deposition (PVD, CVD, IBS), optical coating design and metrology supporting manufacture of lenses, windows, domes and/or mirrors.
o Demonstrated experience developing and troubleshooting optics manufacturing processes in a production environment.
o Demonstrated identification and execution of research and development projects in the field of optics manufacturing.
o Demonstrated leadership of non-recurring activities including technical and logistical planning, execution and communication with program teams.
o Demonstrated planning and execution of capital projects including technology identification, justification and specification.
o Demonstrated leadership of diverse teams performing in a manufacturing environment (formal or informal).
o Strong analytical skills.
o Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated communications from shop floor to senior leadership.
o Effective project management and strong communication/presentation skills.
o Knowledge and application of Lean Six Sigma Tools and experience driving Root Cause and Corrective Action analysis.

These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
