QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in the computer-related technology fields including software applications, machine learning, artificial intelligence, augmented or virtual reality;
  • File and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and foreign patent/trademark offices including responding to official government actions, drafting appeal briefs, conducting telephone and in-person interviews with Patent Examiners;
  • Oversee filing and prosecution of patent applications in multiple foreign jurisdictions including China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan;
  • Direct foreign associates in English and Chinese regarding the handling of foreign patent applications;
  • Conduct invention disclosure meetings with inventors in both Chinese and English to develop a thorough understanding of advanced technologies in preparation to draft patent applications;
  • Review and evaluate complex invention disclosures and documents, company brochures, technical information and drawings, engineering specifications, and other technical data in both Chinese and English;
  • Translate patent applications, including technical language and specifications, from Chinese to English and English to Chinese, as required for U.S. and foreign patent matters;
  • Perform prior art search for claim patentability and validity;
  • Advise and represent clients in in private matters and before government agencies;


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Juris Doctor degree and Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering;
  • Licensed to practice law;
  • 3 years of experience as an IP attorney;
  • Membership in a state bar association;
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (limited recognition acceptable);
  • Fluent in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese (traditional and simplified);
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses in patent-related work;
  • Knowledge of complex computer and electrical technologies including programming languages, database technologies, computer architectures, image and video processing, electrical metering and smart grid technologies, quantum computing, and bioinformatics


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The annualized salary range for this position in Washington is $140,000 to $225,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidateโ€™s education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Our compensation program also provides annual incentive bonuses based on work production and may also offer merit bonuses.
