What is a Mandarin nanny?

A Mandarin Nanny is a childcare provider who is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and is responsible for caring for children while also helping them learn and practice the Mandarin language. These nannies often incorporate Mandarin into daily routines, play, and educational activities, providing an immersive language environment. Families may hire a Mandarin Nanny to give their children a bilingual upbringing or to support their Mandarin language studies. In addition to language support, Mandarin Nannies typically handle typical nanny duties such as preparing meals, supervising playtime, and assisting with homework.

What does a Mandarin nanny do?

A Mandarin Nanny plays a key role in fostering language skills by immersing children in Mandarin through daily conversation, storytelling, and interactive activities such as singing songs and playing games. In a bilingual household, the nanny often collaborates closely with parents to align on language goals, ensuring consistency and reinforcing Mandarin in a natural, engaging way. Additionally, they may provide cultural exposure by introducing traditional customs, holidays, and cuisine, which enriches the child's learning experience and helps them connect with their heritage. Regular communication with the family helps tailor the approach to each child's needs and track progress over time.

What skills and qualifications does a Mandarin nanny need?

To thrive as a Mandarin Nanny, you need fluency in Mandarin, childcare experience, and a background in early childhood education or relevant certifications. Familiarity with child development tools, lesson planning software, and first aid certification are commonly required. Patience, cultural sensitivity, and excellent communication skills help a Mandarin Nanny build trust and foster a supportive learning environment. These skills ensure the child's safety, language development, and overall well-being in a bilingual or multicultural household.

Job description

Overview

MANDARIN SPEAKING NANNY NEEDED IN JACKSON HOLE, WY (RELOCATION OR FLY-IN/FLY-OUT CONSIDERED) - An extraordinary family based in beautiful Jackson Hole, Wyoming is seeking an exceptional, top-tier ROTA MANDARIN-SPEAKING NANNY to join their household caring for their two young children, ages 5 and 3. This is a rare opportunity to work with a thoughtful, highly engaged family seeking truly best-in-class career nannies who bring a sophisticated understanding of early childhood development and view childcare as both a profession and a calling. The family is looking for highly educated, developmentally minded professionals with extensive experience in early childhood education, Reggio Emilia-inspired learning, gentle parenting philosophies, and respectful, child-led caregiving practices.

The position will operate on a 2-weeks-on/2-weeks-off ROTA schedule. While on rotation, the nanny will provide 24/7 coverage; however, active childcare hours will generally average approximately 10 hours per day, with substantial downtime and personal time built into the schedule. The family is deeply committed to creating a sustainable and supportive work environment and understands the significant mental and emotional demands inherent in a ROTA role.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background in early childhood development and significant experience working with preschool and early elementary-aged children. Extensive knowledge of Reggio Emilia, gentle parenting, emotional regulation, and child development is essential. The family is seeking caregivers who are highly attuned, emotionally intelligent, calm, intentional, and capable of fostering curiosity, independence, and confidence through developmentally appropriate, play-based learning experiences.

This family leads an adventurous and globally minded lifestyle, and the role will involve extensive travel, including international travel and remote, adventure-based destinations. Candidates must be highly adaptable, physically active, and enthusiastic about traveling to off-the-grid and remote locations while maintaining consistency, structure, and exceptional care for the children regardless of environment.

Candidates may reside anywhere within the United States, although those based on the West Coast or Midwest are preferred due to ease of travel to Jackson Hole. Both relocation candidates and fly-in/fly-out candidates will be considered.

Additional qualifications include:

Extensive professional nanny experience, preferably within UHNW or fully staffed households Exceptional knowledge of early childhood development, Reggio Emilia philosophy, and gentle parenting practices Prior ROTA experience strongly preferred Experience with extensive domestic and international travel Highly adaptable, flexible, and comfortable in dynamic environments Emotionally intelligent, calm, proactive, and solutions-oriented Comfortable collaborating closely with highly involved parents and other household staff Strong communication skills and impeccable professionalism Travel-ready with a current passport Excellent driving record; all transportation while on duty will be provided via family vehicle

Compensation is open and highly competitive, commensurate with experience, education, language abilities, and overall fit. The family offers paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick time, health insurance benefits, and an exceptional long-term opportunity within a warm, respectful, and highly intentional household. This is a truly extraordinary opportunity for two world-class career nannies seeking a meaningful, intellectually engaging, and adventure-filled role with a wonderful family.
