Job description

Estimator – Metal Fabrication
South Side of Indianapolis
$70,000–$80,000+ DOE
1st Shift | Monday–Friday | Full-Time

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our client's metal fabrication team on the south side of Indianapolis. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and project timelines based on architectural and mechanical drawings. Work includes a mix of shop-based estimating, occasional site visits, and collaboration with customers and internal teams.
Projects span manufacturing, industrial, construction, and architectural markets.
Key Responsibilities
  • Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to determine scope and requirements
  • Prepare detailed material and labor cost estimates using fabrication processes such as laser cutting, waterjet, press brake, CNC machining, and welding
  • Source and price vendor items and non-metal materials (lighting, wood, plastics, equipment, etc.)
  • Compile and maintain complete bid documentation and supplier pricing data
  • Identify cost drivers and construction factors affecting project estimates
  • Communicate with contractors, owners, and project stakeholders to clarify scope
  • Collaborate with shop personnel to improve fabrication methods and estimating efficiency
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating processes and workflows
  • Occasional site visits for field measurements and project coordination
Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings
  • Understanding of commercial construction processes
  • Experience with CAD or 3D modeling is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills (internal and external)
  • Mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
