Job Description

We are seeking a highly strategic and analytically driven Go-to-Market (GTM) strategist at the Principal level to lead design and operationalize how The Vertex Companies brings its most complex, high-value services to market. This role is focused on shaping where and how the firm competes—through thoughtful market segmentation, clear positioning, and structured commercial approaches that enable consistent execution.


Working closely with the Chief Commercial Officer, senior leadership, and practice leaders, this individual will play a key role in building the frameworks, insights, and messaging needed to support scalable, repeatable growth. The ideal candidate combines strong strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to developing practical tools and solutions that teams can use in the field.

Core ResponsibilitiesGTM Strategy & Market Insights
  • Support the development and refinement of the firm’s go-to-market strategy across priority industries and service lines.
  • Conduct market segmentation and client prioritization to identify high-value opportunities and “right-to-win” areas.
  • Contribute to defining “where to play” and “how to win” through data-driven analysis and market insights.
  • Ensure alignment between market opportunities, service positioning, and overall brand narrative.
Offering & Solution Development
  • Partner with practice leaders to translate technical expertise into clearly defined, market-ready offerings.
  • Help structure integrated solutions that connect advisory, project management, and dispute/claims services across the project lifecycle.
  • Develop repeatable solution frameworks and commercial packages that support consistent selling and delivery.
Messaging & Commercial Enablement
  • Support the development of clear, compelling messaging and positioning that enables value-based selling.
  • Collaborate with marketing on campaigns, thought leadership, and client-facing content.
  • Create practical tools, playbooks, and frameworks that help teams articulate value and engage clients effectively.
Pipeline Insights & Performance Analysis
  • Define and track key GTM metrics, including pipeline composition, service adoption, and market penetration.
  • Analyze pipeline and market data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for growth.
  • Partner with sales leadership to provide insights that improve focus, targeting, and funnel efficiency.
GTM Processes & Operating Model
  • Help build and refine scalable GTM processes, playbooks, and operating rhythms.
  • Support alignment across marketing, sales, and practice teams to ensure a consistent go-to-market approach.
  • Contribute to the evolution of a more structured and proactive commercial model.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of experience in go-to-market strategy, commercial strategy, or strategic planning within consulting or professional services industries.
  • Strong experience in market segmentation, positioning, and growth strategy development.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex services into clear, differentiated offerings.
  • Experience working in technical or complex industries such as construction, engineering, healthcare, energy, or higher education preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders across marketing, sales, and practice teams.
  • Experience developing GTM frameworks, playbooks, or commercial tools that support execution.
