Director of Sales for the West is responsible for achieving sales targets and company’s overall profitability objectives as it relates to the West Regional and National accounts. Supports and aids in fostering the business relationship at all levels of the organization. Serves as the business leader for current and future business opportunities. Responsible for new distribution, efficient promotions that maximize ROI, is the subject matter expert on Kroger, Albertsons, WinCo, HEB, SaveMart, Stater Bros., UNFI Independents, etc., and category trends in conjunction with competitive analysis, pricing, promotion, etc., and provides actionable information to VP of Retail Sales via sales reports, including planning, forecasting, strategy, and whitespace opportunities. This position is accountable for achieving the West P&L.

COMPENSATION: $180,000 - $220,000/Year DOE, Bonus Eligible

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage and support our key account managers for the West. Work closely on directing all functional departments on the launch of new items, demand planning, promotional execution/negotiation, deduction management, product ideation, etc. Manage the broker on scheduling meetings and activities associated with club items (i.e. demos, MEI input, accrual management, etc.).  Attend all buyer presentations to prepare and present the items to the regional buyers.  Ongoing tasks include the following:

  • Forecasting and weekly/monthly sales reporting as applicable.
  • Monthly expense reporting.
  • Annual West (Regional & National) planning.
  • Quarterly Business Reviews
  • Review and ensure accuracy of customers inventory data.
  • Analyze and refine accuracy of forecasts, considering items’ volatility, promotional activity, displays, seasonality, and new item launches.
  • Establishes performance goals for the team, and monitors performance on a continual basis.
  • Oversee and lead the development and execution of the sales objectives.
  • Oversee budget reconciliation, compliance, and costumer specific grow projects/targets.
  • Analyze sales data to inform tactical and strategic decisions.
  • Oversee, and responsible for, accurate sales forecasts.
  • Seeks out and targets new sales opportunities, initiates action plan to approach and secure new business for the Company. Develop and/or improve relationships with key leaders, both corporately and regionally, in customer’s organization.
  • Works collaboratively with team members and leaders of other functional departments in the company.
  • Maximize efficiency with our supply chain partners.
  • Advise on trends and/or demand shifts that could impact the customer or the company.
  • Conduct weekly Circana data review to identify opportunities and risks, and to communicate internally.
  • Attend grand opening events to demonstrate support and interaction with corporate and regional associates.
  • Drive initiatives for continuous product development and improvements.
  • Help lead and manage broker’s direct efforts, along with annual performance reviews.
  • In partnership with the Regional and Nation Sales Managers, strategize long and short-term account goals, including but not limited to, new item launches, promotional opportunities, defensive measures, and market intelligence.
  • Coach and develop cross-functional team supporting the accounts.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvements focused on productivity and results.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA a plus. Minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in a sales role.
  • Experience managing both existing relationships and developing new partnerships.
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • High-energy and a self-starter.
  • Proven ability to effectively collaborate cross-functionally, both internally with Marketing, Finance, Demand Planning and Customer Service teams, as well as externally with brokers and customers
  • Demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining strong business relationships.
  • Proven leadership ability to influence, develop, and empower employees to achieve objectives with a team approach.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Power point proficiency a must.
  • Must possess creative problem solving, strong analytical skills, and ability to link strategies and objectives to develop a plan.
