What is a manager union?

A Manager Union is an organized group that represents the interests of managers or supervisory staff within a company or industry. Unlike traditional labor unions that typically represent non-management employees, manager unions advocate for issues specific to those in managerial positions, such as working conditions, compensation, job security, and professional development. These unions can help managers negotiate collective bargaining agreements, resolve workplace disputes, and ensure fair treatment by employers. Manager unions are less common than other types of unions, but they exist in some sectors and regions to address the unique challenges faced by managers.

How does a manager union balance the needs of union members with organizational objectives?

A Manager Union plays a crucial role in negotiating and mediating between union members and management. This often involves actively listening to members’ concerns, staying updated on labor laws, and facilitating constructive dialogue with organizational leaders. The challenge lies in advocating for fair labor practices and improved working conditions while also recognizing the operational goals of the employer. Daily responsibilities include attending meetings, negotiating contracts, resolving grievances, and ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements. Effective collaboration, strong communication, and diplomacy are essential skills for success in this dynamic environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a manager union, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Union Manager, you need a strong background in labor relations, contract negotiation, and employment law, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in human resources or industrial relations. Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements, grievance procedures, and labor management software is typically required. Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills help foster trust and effectively advocate for members. These skills are essential to ensure fair representation, maintain positive labor-management relationships, and achieve favorable outcomes for union members.

What is the difference between Manager Union vs Supervisor?

Job description

General Manager – Union Padel Club

Build a Club. Build a Community. Build Something New.

At Union Padel Club, we're creating more than a place to play—we're building a community where people come to compete, connect, socialize, and belong.

We're looking for an energetic, hospitality-driven General Manager who thrives on creating memorable experiences, developing relationships, and leading from the floor. This isn't a role behind a desk. It's for someone who enjoys being out in the club, greeting members by name, supporting the team, hosting events, and helping shape a culture people want to be part of.

If you believe great businesses are built one relationship at a time, we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

As General Manager, you'll oversee every aspect of the club while creating an environment where members and team members genuinely enjoy spending their time.

You'll lead operations while helping grow a vibrant community through exceptional hospitality, engaging programming, and strong business performance.

Your Responsibilities Create an Incredible Member Experience
  • Foster a welcoming, hospitality-first culture throughout the club.
  • Build authentic relationships with members and guests.
  • Be visible, approachable, and actively engaged throughout the club each day.
  • Resolve concerns with empathy, professionalism, and urgency.
Lead Club Operations
  • Oversee the daily operation of the club.
  • Ensure exceptional standards across facilities, cleanliness, safety, and presentation.
  • Partner with department leaders to deliver a seamless member experience.
  • Continuously improve operational efficiency.
Grow the Business
  • Drive membership growth and retention.
  • Support sales initiatives and community outreach.
  • Build partnerships with local businesses and organizations.
  • Help establish Union Padel Club as the premier destination for padel and social connection.
Programming & Events
  • Develop engaging leagues, tournaments, clinics, and social programming.
  • Partner with the food & beverage team to create memorable events and experiences.
  • Continuously look for new ways to activate the club and create reasons for members to return.
Lead the Team
  • Hire, coach, and inspire a high-performing team.
  • Create an environment built on accountability, ownership, hospitality, and fun.
  • Invest in team development and recognition.
Own the Business
  • Manage budgets and financial performance.
  • Analyze KPIs and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Make thoughtful business decisions that support long-term success.
We're Looking For Someone Who
  • Loves hospitality and creating memorable experiences.
  • Naturally builds relationships with people.
  • Is energized by being on the floor rather than sitting in an office.
  • Has experience leading teams and developing people.
  • Thinks like an entrepreneur and enjoys building something new.
  • Balances culture with accountability.
  • Is organized, adaptable, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Has experience in hospitality, fitness, private clubs, sports, restaurants, or lifestyle businesses.
  • Enjoys sales, networking, and community engagement.
  • Bonus:You already play—or are excited to learn—padel.
What Success Looks Like
  • Members know you by name—and you know theirs.
  • The club feels welcoming, energetic, and full of life.
  • Programming is thriving and events are well attended.
  • Team members are engaged and excited to come to work.
  • Membership continues to grow through outstanding experiences and word of mouth.
  • Union Padel Club becomes the place people choose to spend their time—not just to play padel, but to connect with others.
Why Union Padel Club?

We're building something special.

This is an opportunity to shape a club from the beginning, create a culture you're proud of, and make a lasting impact on a growing community. If you enjoy bringing people together, creating memorable experiences, and leading from the front, you'll feel right at home here.
