BlueTide Communications is seeking a motivated and versatile Hybrid IT Support & Marine Field Technician to join our Ft. Lauderdale team. This role combines traditional IT support responsibilities with hands-on field installation and service work aboard commercial and offshore vessels.

The ideal candidate is comfortable troubleshooting IT systems remotely while also working in the field performing installations, cable runs, equipment replacements, and onboard network deployments. This position requires a strong technical foundation, adaptability, and a willingness to travel to ports, shipyards, and vessels as needed.

Key Responsibilities

IT Support & Systems Management

  • Provide remote and onsite technical support for clients via phone, email, remote access, and in-person service.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and connectivity issues.
  • Monitor and maintain client environments using Remote Monitoring & Management (RMM) tools.
  • Configure and support Windows workstations, network equipment, and cloud-based systems.
  • Assist with cybersecurity best practices, endpoint protection, firewall configurations, and system updates.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of service tickets, configurations, and resolutions.

Marine & Field Operations

  • Travel to vessels, shipyards, ports, and customer locations to perform installations and service work.
  • Pull and terminate network cabling aboard vessels and facilities.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot surveillance camera systems and onboard networking equipment.
  • Build, organize, and install network/server racks.
  • Replace and configure Starlink systems, antennas, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and related communications equipment.
  • Assist with vessel technology deployments including satellite communications, CCTV systems, and wireless infrastructure.
  • Work alongside engineering and project management teams during installations and commissioning.
  • Perform equipment testing, troubleshooting, and final system verification onsite.

Team & Customer Support

  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain professional communication with clients and vessel crews.
  • Collaborate with engineers and senior technicians to resolve escalated technical issues.
  • Participate in operational planning, team meetings, and knowledge sharing initiatives.
  • Maintain a safety-focused mindset while working in industrial, marine, and offshore environments.

Qualifications

  • Experience in IT support, networking, field service, or low-voltage installation.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems.
  • Familiarity with surveillance camera systems, structured cabling, and rack installations.
  • Experience with Starlink, satellite communications, or marine/offshore systems is a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently in both remote and onsite environments.
  • Comfortable working aboard vessels, in shipyards, and in physically demanding environments.
  • Willingness to travel regionally and occasionally offshore as needed.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel to ports and customer locations.

Preferred Certifications & Experience

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+
  • Experience with MSP environments or managed IT services
  • Experience with CCTV systems and network video recorders (NVRs)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and remote support platforms
  • Marine, offshore, or industrial field experience preferred but not required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and board vessels safely
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in marine/industrial environments
  • Ability to travel and occasionally work extended hours during vessel deployments
