Job description

Position Summary


The Switchgear Project Manager/ Estimator is responsible for leading the technical sales, application engineering, and project execution support for medium- and low-voltage switchgear solutions. This role serves as the primary subject matter expert for switchgear products, supporting internal sales teams, customers, and manufacturers to drive revenue growth, ensure technical accuracy, and deliver high-quality project outcomes.


About the Role


Key Responsibilities


Technical Expertise & Application Support

  • Serve as the in-house expert for low- and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, and related power distribution equipment
  • Review customer specifications, single-line diagrams, and construction documents to develop compliant solutions
  • Provide equipment selection, sizing, and configuration support (breakers, bus ratings, protection schemes, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, UL, ANSI, IEEE)


Sales Support & Business Development

  • Partner with outside and inside sales teams to develop quotations and technical proposals
  • Engage with contractors, engineers, and end users to influence equipment specifications and win projects
  • Identify opportunities to upsell value-added solutions (custom assemblies, engineered systems, service packages)
  • Support bid strategy, pricing, and negotiation for complex switchgear projects


Project Management & Execution

  • Act as technical lead throughout the project lifecycle—from quotation through order, submittals, production, and delivery
  • Review and approve submittals, shop drawings, and bills of material
  • Coordinate with manufacturers to ensure accuracy, lead time alignment, and issue resolution
  • Support logistics planning, including delivery sequencing and site requirements


Manufacturer & Vendor Coordination

  • Maintain strong relationships with key manufacturers
  • Stay current on product updates, new technologies, and factory capabilities
  • Escalate and resolve technical or commercial issues with vendors


Qualifications


  • 1++ years of experience in switchgear, power distribution, or electrical equipment sales/application engineering
  • Strong knowledge of distribution systems


Required Skills


Technical Skills

  • Deep understanding of switchgear design including protective devices, bus systems, arc flash mitigation, and coordination
  • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, specifications, and construction drawings
  • Familiarity with manufacturer configuration tools


Business & Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong commercial acumen with experience supporting high-value, complex bids
  • Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Leadership mindset with a collaborative, team-oriented approach


Preferred Skills


  • Experience with mission-critical environments (data centers, healthcare, industrial facilities)
  • Knowledge of medium-voltage equipment (VFI switchgear, metal-clad gear, unit substations)
