Business Development Manager

Lead the Next Phase of Growth at North Shore Steel

North Shore Steel is investing in the future of its commercial organization and looking for a leader who wants to help build it. This is an opportunity to shape a national Business Development team, influence commercial strategy, develop future sales leaders, and play a meaningful role in the company's long-term growth.

This is more than a sales management role. It's an opportunity to build a high-performing Business Development team, influence commercial strategy, develop future sales leaders, and drive profitable growth across key markets throughout the United States.

If you're passionate about coaching people, developing customer relationships, identifying new market opportunities, and creating a culture of accountability and performance, we'd like to talk with you.

The Leader We're Looking For

We aren't simply looking for someone who can manage a sales team. We're looking for someone who enjoys developing people, building trust, strengthening customer relationships, and creating an environment where high performers can thrive.

The ideal leader is equally comfortable discussing long-term strategy with executive leadership, coaching a Business Development Representative in the field, collaborating with Operations to support customer success, and rolling up their sleeves to help win new business.

You'll likely thrive in this role if you

Believe developing people is just as important as developing business.
Lead with integrity, accountability, and collaboration.
Think strategically while staying connected to customers and your team.
Naturally build relationships across Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Executive Leadership.
Enjoy creating structure, improving processes, and helping others succeed.
Want the opportunity to build something meaningful rather than simply maintain the status quo.

What You'll Do

Lead, coach, and develop a geographically dispersed team of Business Development Representatives across the United States.
Drive new customer acquisition, strategic account growth, and market expansion.
Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, customer focus, and professional development.
Coach representatives through complex sales opportunities, customer meetings, negotiations, and territory planning.
Develop territory growth strategies while improving pipeline management, forecasting, and commercial execution.
Partner closely with Marketing to maximize lead generation, trade shows, campaigns, and sales enablement initiatives.
Collaborate with Operations and Inside Sales to deliver an exceptional customer experience from opportunity through execution.
Identify market trends, competitive intelligence, and emerging customer needs that support long-term profitable growth.
Recruit, mentor, and develop future commercial leaders.

What Success Looks Like
This role is about much more than achieving a sales number.
Success means you have:

Built a high-performing national Business Development team.
Expanded market share and strengthened strategic customer relationships.
Developed future commercial leaders through coaching and mentorship.
Improved sales execution, forecasting accuracy, and commercial discipline.
Strengthened collaboration between Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Inside Sales.
Helped position North Shore Steel for sustainable long-term growth.

What We're Looking For

Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Sales, or a related field preferred.
7+ years of business development, industrial sales, or commercial leadership experience.
3+ years of experience leading and developing sales professionals.
Metals industry experience strongly preferred, including steel service centers, plate processing, metals distribution, or steel manufacturing.
Demonstrated success leading remote sales teams, growing market share, and developing strategic customer relationships.
Strong leadership, coaching, consultative selling, negotiation, and communication skills.
Experience utilizing CRM systems, pipeline management, forecasting, and sales analytics.

Why North Shore Steel?
This is an opportunity to help shape the future of a growing commercial organization.
You'll have the autonomy to lead a national team, influence commercial strategy, partner directly with executive leadership, and help build the systems, people, and processes that support long-term growth.

At North Shore Steel, we believe sustainable business growth starts with developing great people, building strong customer relationships, and fostering collaboration across every part of the organization.

If you're looking for an opportunity where your leadership will leave a lasting impact, not only on revenue, but on people and the future direction of the business, we'd welcome the opportunity to speak with you.
