As a Medical Lab Scientist with WakeMed Urology, you'll play a vital role in supporting patient care by providing accurate, timely laboratory testing that helps guide diagnosis and treatment decisions. You'll work alongside a collaborative team of providers and healthcare professionals in a specialty practice that values quality, innovation, and exceptional patient experiences.
Who You Are
  • You have a preferred 2 years of clinical laboratory experience and a strong understanding of laboratory operations, quality standards, and patient-focused care.
  • You are highly detail-oriented and able to exercise independent judgment when evaluating, interpreting, and reporting laboratory results within established testing protocols.
  • You are proficient in the use of laboratory instrumentation, diagnostic equipment, and computer systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and maintain workflow efficiency.
  • You are committed to ongoing professional development, maintaining required competencies, and staying current with laboratory best practices.
  • Experience performing moderate complexity testing, including urine microscopy and post-vasectomy sperm count analysis, is preferred.
What You'll Do
  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing to support the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care of patients within the WakeMed Urology practice.
  • Accurately evaluate, document, and report patient test results while utilizing sound clinical judgment and adhering to established laboratory procedures.
  • Operate, maintain, and perform quality control on laboratory equipment, instruments, and systems to ensure reliable and accurate testing outcomes.
  • Maintain laboratory readiness by supporting inventory management, equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, and safe laboratory practices.
  • Collaborate with providers and teammates while assisting with the training and onboarding of new employees and students, serving as a knowledgeable resource within the laboratory.
