Assistant Manager

Position Summary
The Figure Skating Director & Assistant Manager is a dual-role leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Skating Academy, camps, coaches, teams, competitions, and daily office operations. This position ensures a high-quality experience for skaters, families, staff, and coaches by combining program management expertise with strong administrative leadership. The ideal candidate is strategic, highly organized, and hands-on, capable of growing long-term figure skating programs while efficiently managing day-to-day business operations.
K E Y R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S

Skating Academy Leadership & Instruction

  • Design, implement, and refine a comprehensive skating curriculum for all ages and skill levels.
  • Lead and mentor instructors by providing training, lesson plan support, and regular performance evaluations.
  • Track student progress through assessments, ribbons, and progress reports; communicate advancement recommendations to families.
  • Conduct individual development meetings with parents and skaters to discuss future skating pathways and program options.
    Manage all Academy registration, cancellations, credits, transfers, make-ups, and customer service needs.
  • Print rosters, monitor attendance, supervise Academy sessions (Tues/Thurs/Sat), and step in to teach as needed.
    Develop creative strategies to expand Academy enrollment and strengthen pipelines into advanced programs, teams, and camps.

Skating Camp Oversight & Execution

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute skating camps, including daily schedules, lesson plans, staffing, and rosters.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise camp instructors and support staff with ongoing feedback and performance management.
  • Create engaging and age-appropriate programs for all camp levels, including specialty camps for advanced skaters.
  • Manage all registration tasks, including parent communication, last-minute signups, transfers, and cancellations.
  • Maintain camp-related budgets, equipment inventory, craft materials, loaner gear, and ensure spaces remain organized and clean.
  • Develop creative program enhancements to increase enrollment and convert camp families into Academy skaters, competitors, and NorCal Elite skating team members.


Coaching Staff Management

  • Oversee coaching operations and ensure accurate, timely calculation and payment of commissions.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date employment records, including insurance, SafeSport, ISI credentials, and contracts.
  • Provide training, continuing education, and performance guidance to maintain high coaching standards.
  • Coordinate scheduling across Academy, camps, private lessons, competitions, and special rink events.
  • Manage time-off requests and develop staffing plans to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Foster a professional, team-focused environment emphasizing accountability, consistency, and growth.

NorCal Elite Team Administration (Synchro & Theatre on Ice)

  • Manage all administrative operations for NorCal Elite teams, including rosters, schedules, communications, and team materials.
  • Oversee team finances: track team dues, collect payments, process coach payouts, manage expenses, and issue reimbursements promptly.
  • Maintain detailed financial records including receipts, budgets, outstanding balances, and payment histories.
  • Create and distribute team contracts, payment plans, season packets, and annual informational materials.
  • Complete all competition registrations accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate with coaches and management to maintain clear expectations, improve processes, and support team performance throughout the season.

Competition & Show Management

  • Plan and execute all figure skating competitions and shows (Ice Sports Champs, Solano Showcase, Cowtown Classic, Skate a Gift).
  • Secure sanctioning/endorsement, update announcements, manage pricing, and set up registration in EntryEeze.
  • Coordinate event logistics including schedules, skate orders, judges assignments, coach credentials, zamboni schedules, medals, trophies, decor, and equipment.
  • Partner with marketing and management to promote events and increase participation.
  • Manage all competitor communication, payments, refunds, music collection, and registration changes.
  • Lead the setup and breakdown of event stations and ensure adequate staffing and volunteer support.
  • Actively manage operations during events, ensuring smooth flow and quick resolution of issues.
  • Balance minimal coaching obligations during competitions to maintain full operational focus.

Management & Administrative Leadership

  • Oversee daily office operations, including staffing, training, scheduling, and customer service.
  • Train and supervise floor staff to ensure consistent, professional communication and policy compliance.
  • Create and implement new public skate programming such as games, mascot appearances and general announcements.
  • Maintain organized administrative systems including filing, financial logs, contracts, and operational records.
  • Handle facility communications: email, phone, in-person inquiries, internal messages, and customer concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, company policies, and safety procedures.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, evaluations, and performance improvement for staff.
  • Prepare reports, track attendance, and support administrative tasks for programs, rentals, public sessions, and events.
  • Collaborate with leadership to enhance operational efficiency, team culture, and long-term planning.

Pro Shop Liaison

  • Assist with figure skate fittings and customer consultations.
  • Collaborate with the Pro Shop Manager on inventory adjustments and product recommendations.
  • Train staff on figure skating equipment needs and fitting basics to improve customer service and sales.

Marketing & Program Growth Collaboration

  • Partner with the social media coordinator to promote all figure skating programs.
  • Create strategies to maximize enrollment through digital marketing, print materials, community outreach, and parent engagement.
  • Research and implement improvements to program offerings and customer experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Serve as a positive role model for all staff, coaches, and skaters.
  • Support special projects, strategic initiatives, and cross-functional programs as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Must be available during Academy sessions, skate camps, and throughout the week for office hours and program oversight.
  • Availability full time Tuesday through Saturday, with some modifications to this weekly schedule based on events and competitions.

Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S

  • Extensive figure skating background, preferably with coaching, directing, or competitive experience.
  • Proven leadership, program management, and staff supervision experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Familiarity with ISI (required) and USFS (optional) standards, certifications, and competition operations.
  • Current SafeSport compliance, background check, and ISI certification required.
  • Proficiency in office software, scheduling systems, and digital communication tools.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays (Closed Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day).
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred.

Salary: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
